STEPHAN FORTÉ “The Shadows Compendium”

“The Shadows Compendium”
I’m pretty biased towards guitar wanking albums. Self-indulgence is not a pretty sight. I have very little experience of listening to these kinds of albums simply because I don’t know how to approach them. I don’t play the guitar and have no knowledge of different techniques so I can’t judge the level of skills. I just listen to the songs hoping to hear anything/something good. Continue reading

KAMBRIUM “Shadowpath”

Kambrium are totally new to me. Somehow I kind of expected them to be full on symphonic but they turned out to be more of an aggressive death metal band although there is a symphonic element to the music. I don’t know why but Kambrium reminded me of Lemming Project (anybody that remember them?). Continue reading

“Human Maze”
For the longest of times I thought that Lacuna Coil were too light for my taste but then I started to listen to them intensely and I soon realised that there might be more to them that I actually like than things I don’t like. My Black Light are also Italians and any comparison with Lacuna Coil might be superfluous but Lacuna Coil was the first band that I came to think of when I first read about My Black Light. ARVEN “Music Of Light”

“Music Of Light”
Have you ever wondered what Enya’s music would sound like had she fronted a metal band. Then give Arven a listen. OK that might not be the whole truth but this brings put feelings that I haven’t felt in a long time. Goth metal as a sub-genre is not homogenous. Within it you’ll find different branches that go in all directions. Arven might not even be goth metal even if they flirt with it. Continue reading

BLASPHEMIST “Shadowtorned World”

“Shadowtorned World”
(Noisehead Records)
I have no concept of time passed. Yesterday seem just as far away as last week, last month or last year. So when I hear that this or that was a big hit two years ago it still feels like it happened last week to me. So whenever I hear a new melodeath band that isn’t Swedish it feels new and fresh to me and not like last year’s socks. Continue reading

CAGE “Supremacy Of Steel”

“Supremacy Of Steel”
Forget that everybody keep mentioning Judas Priest in every breath when they speak about Cage. This is heavy metal done the heavy metal way. It doesn’t even sound like Judas Priest. It doesn’t even sound European for that matter. This is metal the way the Americans do it the best. Strong melodies and a tempo to kill for. Try keeping up headbanging to this and you’ll end up at the emergency room with serious neck injuries. Continue reading
