ANGELSEED

Balkan is a blank to me when it comes to metal but for each month I learn a bit more about its bands. ANGELSEED being my latest Balkan discovery. ©2015 Anders Ekdahl

Could you please introduce the band to us?
-We are 6 piece; female fronted; symphonic/power/thrash/gothic/heavy metal band from Croatia 😀 … from academically educated musicians to musicians with many years of experience on the music scene; AngelSeed. Damir Marijan Maras (rhythm-guitar), Siniša Antunović-Medo (bass), Jurica Baljak (drums), Juraj Birin (solo guitar), Jurica Bažant (keyboards) and Ivana Anic-Lara (vocal).

When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going?
-I guess that depends on the band and their plans for the future. We started out as a project, but it wasn’t until our lead singer Ivana-Lara joined that we decided to become a band and do an album which will be able to compete with already famous names on the scene. From that point on; the demos we recorded previously were significantly updated as each member of AngelSeed contributed in their way to make songs as best as possible. But with us is hard to talk about certain sound, as we have 11 songs, and each song is different metal genre.

How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-To be quite honest, we needed something that will reflect most of the themes from our songs, and what we are all about, but at the same time, be very memorable, simple, and which is a case in most metal bands – not already taken 🙂

How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-It should be very important to every band and every musician, not only in metal genre. Fans are the most important thing here, because without them, you will get nowhere with your music, no matter how good you are. So base is good music, then communication with fans, then everything else.

I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-It is very important part, especially today. In the sea of female fronted bands, and metal bands in general, and with everything already seen and done before, you need to stand out with every little thing. That also includes quality artwork. Most people are very visual. They will go for good covers, even if they never heard of a band 😀

How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on YouTube and facebook can create on social media?
-You can’t avoid anything, especially in the early stages of the band when you have to do everything yourself; and especially if you are online, and most of the people today are online one way or the other. But we take good with the bad also, we can’t expect everyone to like us 😉

When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-Of course, metal genre is widely popular, and with internet era we live in today, seems even bigger when you can find and hear almost everything metal related and communicate with everyone 😀

How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot so on your own?
-Extremely important. They are the one with all the contacts, knowledge and money to push you forward and place you where you need to be to get maximum result from your work so far and the deal you made with them.

How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-I guess that too depends on the band and the genre they play. We tour as much as possible, and try to cover countries where our music will mostly be accepted. It’s hard to get gig outside of course if you don’t have the right contacts or a label.

What will the future bring?
-We hope only good things. Response to our album: CRIMSON DYED ABYSS has been great so far, and the fans are really excited about everything. The plan is to do a Scandinavian tour in spring 2016 and do some videos as well. Also promotion for AMERICA/CANADA/JAPAN next year when our album is released there… So very good things that will lead to even better things we hope 😀
