SHALLOW GROUND

“Never ever dive at the shallow end of the pool” is an advice worth following unless it comes to this US band. SHALLOW GROUND are well worth diving head first into. Answers by Guitarist / Vocalist Keith Letourneau. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

Can you please tell all our readers about the history and discography of SHALLOW GROUND?
-Sure, we have 2 cds out on Killer Metal Records from Germany. The End of Everything and Embrace The Fury. We are heading into the studio soon for the next one!

What pressure is there in releasing an album compared to a demo? Do you feel that there is a sort of pressure to succeed when you release and album, that it sorta is for real now?
-LOL. No, full length CDs are awesome to make!!!!! From the drive to the studio to the first time you hear a rough mix its all very very very cool !!!! If you love what you are playing there is no pressure unless you get a brain fart and your fingers wont play what you want them too.

When you release a record of any sort what kind of expectations do you have on it? Do you set up goals for it?
-The only thing is to like what you put out!

When you release an album and you go out and play live and people know your songs, how weird is that? That people know what you have written on your own?
-Oh yes, it is 100% weird and cool at the same time !! In other words its awesome !!!

Do you feel that you have to follow in the footsteps of the last album for a new when it comes to lyrics and art work for everything so that those that bought the previous record will recognize your sound?
-Well they will hear our sound and know its us! At least I hope that is what happens. Artwork is always a challenge but we work with an awesome artist and he can handle our thoughts!!!

Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community because you play in a band?
-No, just part of me.

how hard/easy is it to come up with new songs that that still are you but doesn’t sound like anything you’ve already written?
-Never try to make something come out. We always just let it flow and that seems to work well for us.

What influences/inspires you today? Where do you draw inspiration from? Is it important to have some sort of message?
-Moods play a big thing in my writing. Pissed off, you get fast and evil chuggs on the guitar. Happy, you get up beat mosh type stuff; so it goes happy – mad mad mad – happy – mad – happy – mad LOL!

We hear about what state the record industry is in. Then we hear that cd sales are increasing. As a band that releases records do you notice the state the industry is in?
-No, we just hope people like what we put out and that our label continues to love us. Ha!

What is your opinion on digital verses physical?
-Physical, as I got to have it in my hands

What lies in the future?
-A new cd and some other stuff.
