When I think of muscle rock I think of Thor or bands like Manowar. But know I gotta add FEANOR to that category. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

Every band has to introduce their music to new people. What is it that you want people to get from listening to you guys?
-Hello Anders, thanks a lot for the interview, interesting question, actually I have to admit that I’ve never saw it on that perspective, I’d rather prefer to focus on myself and what I really try to express with the music, the occasional listener may not appreciate or let’s say, find out what is all about FEANOR normally the tip of the iceberg is about the production, how it sounds, the vocals and the songs, but if you do the homework, investigate a little bit further on the lyrics and the concepts you may find out a lot of other tasty condiments, since I spent a great deal of time composing each song.

How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-I am a Tolkien enthusiast since I was 12 yrs old, after reading the Silmarilion, I´ve got immediately cached by one of his characters “FEANOR” (Spirit of fire). The Noldor Elf is in one hand extremely gifted, but also extremely human, since he is passionate, make mistakes, and that polarity makes him very interesting to analyze, he cannot be easily positioned as “good or bad”, he is colorful indeed a little bit like all of us. In my opinion represents the passion and the will against all odds of life, represents a way of living on which greys are not allowed and we celebrate this with out music.

Everybody is influenced by certain things. What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
-First the old MANOWAR, by old I mean everything until Triumph of Steel, then certainly Virgin Steele and after those 2 then a myriad list of bands, including other genres like classical music, flamenco, tango and stuff like that. Nowadays I read a lot, I normally find inspiration after absorbing books and all sort of arts (music, movies, etc).

When you formed did you do so with the intent of knowing what to play or did you do so from the point of having a band name and then picking a sound? How did you settle on the name/sound combo?
-I was dying to play epic metal like the old Manowar, and my heart is filled with passion and fire like Feanor character, thus the combination of the reading and love for true metal gave me the kick off to start with this style, in Argentina it was not easy to find epic bands like Manowar back in the 90´s therefore, instead following an artist, I´d decided to please my taste by playing the music I love. From the very beginning it was clear to me that I will prevail on this path only by having a strong will, and after 20 years I can honestly say that here we are, still rocking, which proves my point.

I believe that digital is killing the album format. People’s changing habit of how they listen to music will result in there being no albums. Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-I do agree with you, only the die hard fans buys the physical format, and this is somehow like a metal filter, only the real ones get to the real deal which is the CD or the VYNIL, back in my days we had to struggle and dig on the stores to find the artists you want, it wasn’t easy at all to find albums, and once you get it, then the great moment of enjoyment where you reveal the artwork, sniff the vinyl, read the lyrics and thanks section, look at the photos, etc. That act created some sort of magical effect on all of us, this is sadly lost, nowadays by only pressing a bottom you download whatever you want, there is no more search, there is no more struggle, there is no more affection, but as I formerly said, not all the people is the same, there still some real fans around and I know that for a fact.

What part does art-work and lay-out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-Artwork is an important part of a work of art, it is not only the music but the artwork, lyrics and overall design what really shapes your release, for me it is very important to have a rich artwork, and is very rewarding to receive fan mail saying that they´d noticed for example the WAHM initials carved on stone in our cover (stands for We Are Heavy Metal), people that notices that sorts of details really made my day.

Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote your music? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way?
-You are correct, when I’d started FEANOR I´d used to send cassettes and cd by physical mail, and every single week I had letters from all around the globe, it was great to read something hand written on paper, that sort of dedication now is lost, we have professionals handling our promotion, and there is no escape other that play along this new game.

When you play in a band, does that make you feel like you are a part of a scene, of something bigger and grander?
-I play the music I love and I have great joy when other fans really like our music and get it, other than that I don´t know, again, I play this type of music only because of love, it does not gives me money, I don’t have dreams to be famous or stupid shit like that, I have my family, my own work and that gives me the freedom I need in order to play this music only because of true and honest love to it. It is an amazing feeling to me to be able to express myself and get in touch with people from different countries, if you understand that blessing then I think you know the secret of steel.

How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-We used to play a lot some years ago, nowadays we focus only into give few concerts per year, few but good ones, they have to be beneficial to the band, not really talking in terms of money but in exposure.

What will the future bring?
-In one week we will start to write our new album, and hopefully we will be able to do some gigs in either Europe or southamerica before the end of 2017, all in all it will be a great year for us! Thanks a lot for your questions and be sure to check our sites and get in touch !!!!
