AKTAION

Another Swedish act that I am not too familiar with. An interview with AKTAION was needed to get to know a bit more about them. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

Let’s start with your latest recording. When you look back at it now what kind of feelings do you have for it?
-Latest full lenght was ”the Parade of Nature”: Looking back at it is still hard for me (Francis) since I´m still kind of tired listening to those songs. I still love to play them live and look forward to that. The concept of the record turned out great tho. We got all the songs together in a great way and the theme with the lyrics came together in all the songs and the album as a whole. I´m gonna sit down and the love that record to death, as soon as the distance is there

I am fascinated by band names. What was it that made you settle on the one you have and what does it mean to you?
-We needed something new to lable the band when we released our first album “Throne”. I found a book with old greek myths, in swedish, and Aktaion was one of the first names we found and that was it.

What does it mean to you that there are people out there that actually appreciate and look forward to what you are doing?
-We love it. We made lots of fans and friends when we toured the Balkans and most of them are down there. We got an overwhelming amount of pre-orders from all over the globe and that was a great way to release the album to the world. It will be more fun than ever to release new material when the time is right, and even more so to tour and visit old and new fans.

How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Image can be important. We approach our music head-on, no bull-shit and nothing that separates us from the crowd!

I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-Very important. Album artwork goes hand in hand with the theme of the album and everything that goes into the song. We are so happy with where we got the latest artwork. It is a hand painted deer with digital rework going on. It looks amazing and will be hard to top on our next album.

We live in a superficial world today where you don’t exist if you are not on Youtube and Facebook. Has social media been only beneficial in socializing with the fans or is there a down side to it too?
– No downside. It works great, and in many countries we´ve been Spotify might not be available so Youtube is something we have to give our fans the possibility to listen to us anyway. Facebook is our main hub for communication and is a great tool if you use it right!

When you play in a band does it feel like you are a part of a massive community? That you belong to something that gives meaning to your life?
-Well yes. Playing together in rehearsal or on tour is amazing and is an out-of-this-world feeling you quite can´t explain. Music is a big part of all our lives and that will show live.

When you are in the middle of it do you notice what state our beloved music scene is in? Is the scene healthy or does it suffer from some ailment?
-State is healthy overall. It is up to the people to find what they like, and we can only make Aktaion stand out as much as we can. With the marked being quite crowded you have to find ways that work. In the end we just make music for us.

How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-We are focusing on doing at least one tour each year. It is harded to get gigs in Sweden then outside of Sweden, and we prefer to play outside of Sweden, so that is great!

What will the future bring?
-We´re looking at new music being written this year and tours will be announced as soon as all the plans are set! We´re looking forward to getting out on the road again and meet new and old people!!
