When you look back and see how far you have come what do you think of this crazy journey so far and where the heck will it take us?
Manos Xanthakis – Still think that I’m in the beginning. There’s so much more places to go and things to create with Alphastate. The future looks promising
I often wonder how people discover that they can do what they do. How did you discover that you can sing and play instruments?
Manos Xanthakis – Always wanted to sing since being a teenager. Even when i switched to guitar for years and years that need never left my heart. Bands like Helloween, Manowar, Accept, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden did it for me. Performances from these legendary singers always had the ability to carry me away from now and all worries.
When did it become a revelation that you can do this and maybe get paid for having fun, instead of just putting out all the money?
Manos Xanthakis – Always thought that if I’d be able to like my music so much as listener to go out and buy it then it means I’m on the right track. For me Alphastate have reached that point meaning that we got to put more hard work and reach out as many people as possible. As always the sky is the limit.
When you spend an amount of your life on a band does it ever feel like you have wasted time, that you have fought one too many windmills?
Manos Xanthakis – No I never felt like this.Creating music isn’t easy you know and in reality this is not something everyone can do. You have to be very devoted and always be your own hardest judge. Not everyone can understand or relate to this and that’s the reason you don’t see talented musicians making it. Also the key is patience ’cause not everyone you meet along the way will be willing to participate to that vision in your head.
No matter how small or big you were as a band you will leave a legacy behind you. How do you want people to treat this legacy?
Manos Xanthakis – Would like to think of us as a band that had fun and created good music without compromises.Anything Alphastate has put out is a labor of love and experimentation. Also all our songs talk about real stuff and experiences so really hope people will relate.Who knows? Maybe our music will start a spark strong enough he or she will start creating. That would be amazing and a huge honor.
Is digital taking away the mystery of waiting for a new album now that you can upload as soon as you have written a song?
Pete Breaker – I believe that digital a lot more advantages than disadvantages if you think it closely. You gain more ways to promote and sell your song to a lot of people around the world. You have more opportunities to make people listen to your music. The “traditional” way was good but digital is the future and the future is now!
How important is image in separating you from all the million different styles of metal there is out there?
Pete Breaker – For us the image of the band is crucial. On stage and in the songwriting area. We are trying to create something new and evolve with every song and album we make. We try to combine all our influences in our songs but in a more modern way. We are unlimited in ideas.
Do you deal in different topics lyrically or do you keep to one, just using different variations?
Pete Breaker – Our lyrics come from different topics every time. We don’t have a standard theme. Each and everyone of us would have a thought or a personal experience and Manos Xanthakis will take it and put it in the particular song that fits. So this is a very nice thing because that makes the songs more personal.
Do you consider yourself a live artist or do you like to spend most of the time secluded in a studio? Pete Breaker – We are a 50/50 type of band. What I mean? We love to make killer live shows but you have to make also time in the studio to create your personal sound. The signature of the band in our opinion.
How much of a touring band are you guys? What memories do you take with you?
Pete Breaker – We played a lot of shows from 2015 until recently so we love them. We had a great time. The people had fun and that only matter for us!
What does the future hold?
Pete Breaker – The future for Alphastate includes more live shows, more albums and more of everything so stay tuned.
