With some band names you gotta think more than once to really get the meaning. It was like that for me with ALTERED SHADE. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-The band’s name is very important, it fits with the little scenes we deal about in the lyrics. In this world nothing is really white or black, good or evil, so it’s the same for our band’s meaning name. It has two meanings, one positive the other negative, positive if you consider « shade » as darkness, evil, so that negativity is altered. Negative if you consider « shade » as a soul, a spirit which has been altered, like some one who has sold his soul or compromised it. So it fits with the lyrics, we are just storytellers we don’t take side, every one can see what he wants to see.

What was it that made you want to do the band?
-It is a kid dream, having your band, with his name, his logo, your own compositions, your own cd. It is all the creation part.

What is the definition of the music your play?
-At the base it’s death/thrash metal but with pieces of plenty other styles like brutal, dark, black, heavy etc.

How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-The arrangements are make depending the composition of the song, there is no standard method, if the song is fast or slow the arrangement will not be the same, depanding the ambient we want to confer, according to the lyrics, there are lot of things.

Where do you find your inspiration to create?
-It depends, in novels, series, movies, photography, video-games, life. And for the music depends to the moment, it’s more subconscious

How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-As for every metal band the graphic side is very important. Each track is a little scene, a story dealing about life, death, horror, psychology etc. For that, all the album’s illustrations are by Drak Wyvern , who did an amazing job, he is part of our family so he has a perfect comprehension of what we want (check out his facebook page “Drak”). We made the choice to illustrate a fews tracks, because of course we couldn’t afford to make all, but for every song when we write it, we also imagine the artwork corelated, and sometimes we even think about a video clip.
Check out our first video clip “The dark gift of life” available on VEVO and You tube, producted by KB productions, it was a wonderful experience to make it, hoping you will like it.

Do you find that there is a greater freedom in working with digital than working with physical?
-If you are talking about recording technique, yes of course there is a greater freedom in working with digital, that opens an ocean of possibilities of creation, you have access to tons of sounds amps effects, etc.

Are there any limitations to digital? Can you do everything you like?
-Of course you don’t have to loose yourself in this ocean of possibilities, because we are a “live” band so the limitation is that we must be able to play it all live.

Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-Well we are not a “pure” death metal band neither a “pure” thrash metal band, but our style adapts on many concerts (we have played with plenty other metal style bands like brutal death, metalcore, thrash, death, deathcore, heavy etc.)

What does the future hold?
-Our album’s japanese release on may 31st. and for now we are searching dates, booker and we’re hoping see you Battlehelm readers on concert, thanks for supporting metal.
