R=) The band was founded in 2012 as a really serious project of Symphonic Epic Power Metal founded by the keyboardist, writer, researcher, poet and composer Sting Weiss (The Wizard) with the help of drummer Ana Alvarez, after dissolving his previous project Tatarimokke (Avant garde Gothic Doom Metal). The band received the beautiful name of Anfitrite (in spanish) in honor of the Greek goddess of calm sea Amphitrite, his lyrics are inspired by mythology (especially ancient Greece) and the cult expressed by women in ancient pagan cultures.
After several lineup changes the band consolidates after the arrival of Sara Rodríguez (Sara Frozen) excellent and charismatic soprano vocalist, after leaving his previous group (Fade Away) and Islander Boza (Highlander) experienced guitarist and great friend of Sting, with great innovative spirit and unparalleled feeling. From that moment, the influences of the band considerably expand and way more ventures in the Symphonic Pagan Metal.
In 2014 during the recording of their first album, Ana Alvarez left the band for personal reasons and soon Emir Galindez (Duvalier) is offered to cover the vacant drummer, later becoming the official drummer of the project. Shortly thereafter, Euvíc Coronel integrates to the band who begin to play bass and contrabass respectively.
Currently the band is constantly evolving and already has many followers worldwide. In October 2014, after months of recording and hard working team, “Origo” is released, their demo and first album.

How does this new album compare to your previous releases (demos etc.)?
R=) Well, “Origo” is our first album, it began as a simple demo to have some recorded material but actually we ended up creating a small album because we were inspired by an idea that originated specified all the songs on it. According to the philosopher Thales, the water is the generating principle of all things, so “Origo” is based on this pre-Socratic premise. Here you can notice that each song is different from above without departing from the metal base on which they were conceived. Here is the tracklist and some info:

Was it hard for you to come up with a sound you all could agree on?
R=) After the foundation of the band many changes occurs and several members who were formerly part of it had to leave for different reasons, this made our sound changed with the time. But after the arrival of Islander Boza “Highlander”, our guitarist and Sara Rodriguez “SaraFrozen” Our lead singer, the band’s sound became more powerful and mature, because we have almost the same influences and always share together, this was good for assimilate new ideas, which helped to create this first album. Later join to us Emir Galindez “Duvalier” and Euvíc Coronel, who also worked for the sound of Anfítrite that is more assertive. We’re a very versatile band in constant evolution, so our songs will become more complex and elaborate over time 😛

How important are the lyrics to you? What kind of topics do you deal with?
R=)We consider that the lyrics are very important for create a new song, we choose a good topic for each one, we are very careful in this regard, so we do everything possible to try interesting topics that contain a philosophical background. The themes for the lyrics are generally Greek mythology, paranormal and personal experiences, literature and other subjects of interest to us, because we decided not to limit ourselves to a single concept despite being mainly focused on the epic and mythological having a strong philosophical connotation .

How important is the cover art work for you? How much do you decide in choosing art work?
R=)In Anfítrite we believe that the cover art is very important, almost as important as the songs. We prefer the handmade art that our official illustrator Ronny López has the possibility of produce. The art of“Origo” was created for him by hand and then was digitized to fit our concept, so as you can see is a genuine art and was inspired by the same premise that led us to create our record. For our next album will do something similar, but moreover Ronny work in a much more complex concept… it’s a surprise! XD

Where outside of your country have you had success with your previous albums?
R=) Following the release of Origo we observed that this has a major impact internationally, and there have been many sites and radio stations from other countries interested in promoting it and share it, especially listeners English speakers who expressed much interest in our work in Holland, England and the United States has given us a good feddback, so that has motivated us enough to continue working on new songs and we are currently in preparations for a second album. Similarly we have been well accepted in our country and in other Latin American countries such as Nicaragua and Brazil. We hope soon to reach a wider audience allowing spread our music to more countries around the world.

Why is it that we do not see more metal bands from your country making it big internationally?
R=) here in Venezuela this genre is much despised by the society, we need more support because there are little opportunities to present our music live or distribute discs large scale, here don’t exist specialized labels in metal, so many people are working hard to change this. In this sense, we have no choice but to spread our music to other latitudes where the metal is more accepted and understood.

What is your local metal scene like? What status does does your band have in the national metal scene?
R=)In our state there is some support and occasional events are organized to introduce local bands, but this is not enough, because very few local makes possible to present this kind of music. Well, nationally we have succeeded in spreading our music in the few ways that you can spread the gender and dare we say we are one of the few symphonic metal bands left in the country.

What is the general populations opinion on metal? Is being a metal musician a respectable choice?
R=) In our country the people discriminate this genre, but gradually it has grown thanks to the work of many bands like us and organized people that make life in the metal scene of our nation. The metalhead here is seen as unstable or someone with bad intentions involved, so we’re trying to demonstrate through deeds that this is not so, we are organized and visionary people. We hope to achieve a favorable environment for future changes.

What does the future hold for you?
R=) our main goal is to establish ourselves as an important band in this genre and contribute to the growth of the metal scene worldwide with what we can. We have many plans for new songs and even we are working on a music video for one of our most popular songs called “The Descent of Orpheus” with this video we hope to innovate in our country because we are experimenting with a very different way… There are also many other projects under way and that gradually we will present to our fans, so we invite you to follow us on our social networks, especially in our facebook and twitter where we are always put some info and news about our projects. Similarly we hope that if you like our work, you can help us to do a lot more music if you purchase our new album, which is available on our Bandcamp at a low price 😀
