ATOMWINTER

awATOMWINTER is not something I’d like to experience in any other form than music. ©2016 Anders Ekdahl

Could you please introduce the band to us?
-Well, Atomwinter formed by Benni (Guitar) and our first lead singer Christopher in 2010. I joined the band after their first demotape. But there’s one thing I’m sure of, that it is the basic idea: playing true and forceful death metal the recognizable way that immediatly electrifices you without remorse. Atomwinter ’s songs have to ignite – played from tape as well as performed live, without losing anything of their intensity and power. Of course this can only work if everyone believes in the concept and stands behind it 100 percent. Therse’s no room for performing ego trips or self-staging. All members gained experience in metal bands and know what really matters with Atomwinter . To complete the Line-up: Martin on Bassguitar and the new lead singer Olle.

When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going??
-Atomwinter see themselves as full-fletched band with clear future prospects, that we all keep working hard on. So, everyone in the band know exactly whats important for the music. Iron Flesh still is a raw death metal chunk, that we’re really content with. The songs on that record have grown like we wanted them to. Oldschool Death Metal ! OK, Therefor I’ll have to go further back.
On the one hand our former singer Christopher had to leave the band for personal and job-related issues. In Olle we fortunately found a worthy successor. While in our debut album all lyrics are written by the singer Christopher, “Iron Flesh” contains two lyrics from Benni (guitar) and two penned by Christopher, because they were composed before he left. All other lyrics are from our new singer Olle. For the debut we did the songwriting mainly in our band room. For “Iron Flesh” Benni delivered complete songs and we just structured and refined them in our band room with two members.
Our debut we recorded ourselves, but the Iron Flesh songs we recorded for the first time in a professional studio. We’re very satisfied with the work of Torsten Sauerbrey from Metalsound studios. I think the result speaks in its favor.

How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-Atomwinter means nuclear winter in german language. I think this metaphor is self explanatory.

How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-In my opinion death metal in relation with the theme of war is a proper expression to describe deficits and bestiality in our society in an honest and clear way. Of course we’re playing with irony but now and then we set a course or give food for a thought.

I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-I think it´s much important to have an artwork that´s reflecting the spirit and power of the music. So every album is graced by a black/white mindblasting cover of Johannes Kieselbach, and because of this, they outstand from the mass of Death Metal records.
On each cover you can find the Panzerhexe (tank witch). It’s like one of our trademarks. Every creation shows it. It’s our Eddi or snaggletooth”.

How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
– I think our fans know what’s important. At first we want to play our music that lives on idealism, authenticity and passion. On our Facebook page you can find out about all the latest news, happenings and events of Atomwinter. Obviously, we are not afraid of any social media hypes!

When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-Yes, definitely! I think I speak for all of my bandmates when I say that we not only see ourselves as musicians but also as Metal Fans. Like this, it will be even more fun to play the new songs live as well!

How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot do on your own?
-So, the label promote an spread our music throughout the whole world like we could never do. Without the excellent work of our label, we would not be where we are today.

How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-We had many gigs in the past in Germany. Gigs outside the borders must be well planned. That’s precisely what we intend to strive for and accomplish in the future.

What will the future bring?
-Doomed Fuckin´ Death Metal!
