You have one of these names that tell me that some thought has been involved in the choice. How hard was it to come up with the name?
-There were some thoughts and variations about name, but the concept came quickly. Everything is simple.
The competition is a killer these days so please tell us why people should buy your latest album?
– Talking about “competition” – it is not killer, it has some positive features in all meanings and spheres, but the talk is about Atra Mors and we do not compete with anyone, we do what we like. We are the first and only for whom it is done, and if our material is liked by someone it means is good. We do not force anyone to buy or listen our creations, we want to show how we see and feel this world.
Do you notice that there anticipation for you to release an album? Have you built a large enough following for people to eagerly await a new album?
-Well, that damn album should be already released back in the beginning of 2016, but due to some implausible causes even demo release was delayed almost a year. Labels are interested in releasing our material, but it is possible only on our terms.
When you started the band did you do so with a clear intent of what kind of music you wanted to play? How hard was it to come up with a sound all your own?
-U’ve got your instruments, u’ve got your experience and u have technical side. U write some material, select best of it – u’ve got how band sounds in general. We clearly knew what kind of music and how we would play, without compromise. We create our sound basing on the sound of the old school black metal. Our sound is raw but not rubbish – that’s what we like.
Something I have often wondered about is if you feel that you are part of something bigger and greater when you play in a band, that you are part of a movement sort of?
-Bigger and greater – no. Different – i think so. It is some sort of incarnation ritual. Format of interview does not allow to give wide answer to this question.
When you play the sort of music you play do you feel that you can have whatever you like as art work for the cover of your album? What is a great album cover to you?
-The cover of the album must completely convey the essence of the album’s contents. The whole design we create ourselves. When u see same colours on the cover art and in your mind listening to music – sometime it is more important than that picture on the cover.
I have a great fear that the change in how people consume music today will eventually kill music as we know it. What is your opinion on digital verses physical? Is digital killing music?
-Personally, I do not think that something will kill the music. Progress does not stand still, there will be new alternative variations of spreading the dark blessing. There will always be collectors and connoisseurs of analog sound, but at the same time, spreading through the Internet allows many new adepts to penetrated by unholy spirit. We will do the physical media and distribute the blessings through the network
Is the era of great arena tours as thing of yester? What kind live scene is there for bands like yours? What does the touring circuit look like today?
-In our country the concert activity of groups such as ours is based only on their enthusiasm. This is the same “underground” in small local clubs for a limited circle of people. We organize such events ourselves.
When you play live is it a happening or do you see it more as a party?
-Our performances seemed to be more ritual than happening or party.
What would you like to see the future bring?
-It will bring every and only things we earn.
