BLACK PRIEST OF SATAN

BLACK PRIEST OF SATAN has an old school ring to its name but as I’m totally in the blank on this band I had to find out a bit more. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

As I am not at all familiar with your band perhaps you could introduce it?
BLACK PRIEST OF SATAN was established by myself (Avenger, also active in bands such as FRONT BEAST,NOCTURNAL, THE FOG and ANGEL OF DAMNATION among others) in 2006 when recording some tracks for a demo… I asked my finnish friend Molestor Kadotus if he would be interested doing the vocals on those recordings since I knew his voice from his other bands and we always had a good contact… He was and still is the right man who could deliver what I had in mind and he has the right spirit to be part of this… We did release a 7”, a MCD and a split 7” during the years, and finally released our fullenght debut album “Element of Destruction”

How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-Not hard at all… the name came into my mind just in time when I did the tirst demo for BPOS… The only criteria was that it should be clear by reading the name that no weak bullshit awaits the listener…
What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of metal you play? What inspires you today?
BPOS is not inspired by any bands in particular… We aim to create a dark mood with our music within the realms of black/death/doom metal ! A lot of black metal bands play fast, we decided to honour the slower side of darkness !

What is the advantages/disadvantages of cd verses vinyl these days of internet promotion?
-Well, CD´s are more cheap to send abroad… and I like them for listening in the car…. I still did not really get into the MP3 world with that. Vinyl is the best for the full experience … In terms of “promotion” I really have no idea…

Is digital killing the album format?
-It definitely killed a lot of sales, that´s for sure, But I guess “the album” will never be gone really…. Im really not into the idea of bands doing 70 minute albums … the last JUDAS PRIEST for example would be a perfect one if they did wipe out some filler tracks and kept it at 40-45 minutes length like all albums were since like ever….

What part does art work and lay out play? Any message that you want to bring forth with it?
-I think it plays an important role… the whole “thing” must stand strong. For this album covers, layout, band pictures are very important to me… there are many bands who don´t really seem to care about these things and it makes their music less appealing as a whole in my opinion… no matter how “great” the music is on its own.

Is it a whole different way to promote a cd today with all these social media channels? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way? Playing live and word of mouth.
-BPOS is not a band which plays live… we don´t even have a facebook page or any other official internet presence… We uploaded some tracks on Youtube and Soundcloud for people can listen to something in advance, but that´s about it… But we printed flyers to promote the album

Do you feel like you are a part of a scene, locally, nationally and internationally?
-Locally= Hell no ! Nationally = well… im from germany and Molestor from Finland so if at all Internationally ! Im annoyed by bands who claim to be “no part of any scene, blah blah blah” just to act more cool… if you play black metal, you are part of the black metal circus ! Easy as that !

How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-We are no touring band… we have no plans for to play live ever… but yes… playing live is a good way to get the word of your band out… but since we dont take that route we will most likely stay in obsolete darkness forever !

What will the future bring?
-I expect the worst ! Death and Destruction !
