What an odd looking name BOFO KWO. But it got me interested. Anders Ekdahl ©2018
How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-Our name Is quite obscure and I feel it doesn’t really give much info about the music, except the basic genre. (Which is all good for me as things shouldn’t be pre-digested. )- Wamufo.
I wanted to start a band in the 80s but couldn’t fin d the right people to do so with. What was it that made you want to do the band?
-We wanted to combine all our skills, and influences from Rock; Grunge, Metal, Black Metal and Symphonic Music. We also wanted to combine that with a concept that challenged ourselves, including wardrobe and fantasy. Kimmo’s get a chance to evolve his music production, while Janne gets a chance to evolve her scene creation and wardrobe creations. Plus we all wanted to do something different that also would be a great experience not only musically but live and in all our fans minds.
With so many genres and sub-genres of metal today what is your definition of the music you play?
– symphonic blackened sci-fi metal? – Wamufo
How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-That depends entirely on the riffs we gather. But we try to keep things simple. As the songs are written to a specific chapter on Teds novel we’ve now gone straight forward from 1 and kind of kept our hopes up that the songs work in this order. So far it has worked, but we’ll see if we need to adjust. – Wamufo
Lyrics are arranged by me based on the Novel – Legend of a Cannibal King and then Bomari and I will arrange what extra vocals and what style suits the song. – Bofo Kwo
I am fascinated by how people can still come up with things that hasn’t been done before, chord structures that hasn’t been written, sentences that hasn’t been constructed before. Where do you find your inspiration to create?
–we all live, breathe, eat n shit music so the need to create is there and this is now an outlet for that. A wise man said “good artists copy, great artists steal” … we are neither so we are definitely unique! – Wamufo
How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-Haha. With our concept it does play a big role. I think we just realized it’s more important then we thought. But we’ll see in the future what happens and how we evolve. – Wamufo
I get the feeling that more and more metalheads too are just downloading single tracks. Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-I always felt that the metal community was one of the strongest supporters of albums. And with the recent rise of vinyl I don’t think the digital will kill the album. – Wamufo
Are we killing our beloved metal scene by supporting digital downloading or can anything positive come from supporting single tracks and not albums? Will the fan as we know him/her be gone soon?
-I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Digital format just opens up a lot of new possibilities. If you want just a few songs or the full album it’s up to you to decide. Both support the artists, but digital has definitely changed the game. – Wamufo
Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-Haha! we sure hope so..
And we don’t fit in so we’re free to roam anywhere. At least I hope so. – Wamufo
– Yeah for sure, where there are people who likes experimental Metal that is where Bofo Kwo will be – Bofo Kwo
What does the future hold?
-The next step is one more music video, and then at least 2 singles during the fall. We have not yet decided all the details for the release as we are in the midst of recording and producing new music. – Bofo Kwo
