BUILDING CHAOS

Another Greek band to check out. BUILDING CHAOS might very well turn out to be new fave. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

Looking back then, at the very beginning would you say that things went the way you intended to?
-We are a bunch of good friends, hanging out and playing music together. We enjoy each other’s company and playing the music we love. Having one album recorded and another one on the way, I can surely say that is going better than we intend to.

How was the recording process? Did it come out the way you expected it to?
-As I said, when you are between friends, doing the thing you really love, only good can come from that. The moment we heard the album for the very first time we felt that we were holding something really special for us in our hands. We felt great and also moved rehearsing and recording the songs, and we can all agree that it was a great experience.

Having your first album recording, would you say, that as a band have you found your sound, the base you can build on?
-It’s very important for a band to have a signature sound, but on the other hand we are talking about music, influences, inspiration…. At this point our sound we may say is in progress, meaning that we have included lots of element we wanted to, but still we are in the process of evolving and getting even more inspired. We are very close to how our sound want to be but still we have some margins to overcome.
After all… we’ve just starting building chaos…

Having a message in the lyrics is it important to you? What kind of topics do you deal with?
-Couldn’t say that it’s important to have a message, I mean it’s not a “must to” situation. Some of our lyrics talk about reality we live in and ordinary life, some others are about people that lived in the past and we just want to tell their story.

What about the cover of the album. Can a really cool cover still sell an album nowadays, despite the constantly digital downloading?
-Couldn’t say cover is the important element of an album, although let’s admit that many of us have bought at least once in our lives an album because of the beautiful cover… still we are talking about music, and good music can always overcome a cover… even a bad one.

Why is it so hard for bands that come from places other than US or UK/Sweden/Scandinavia to break big? What does success mean to you and is it something you’d like to achieve?
-The answer is easy: bigger the country, lager the market, more opportunities for success.
For us success would be having our music be heard, accepted and shared by as many as possible.

Nowadays with the competition getting harder day by day and with new talents emerging non stop through digital platforms, what can you do to stand out, to get noticed by the audience?
-Just be true to yourself as an artist and as a band. A unite band that enjoying the music that plays is more easy to ¨entice¨ the audience follow the group. We ve just trying to do our really best, writing songs we love to play and giving great shows…. Nothing’ better than a good live show!

What is your local scene like? How important is a national scene for a band to be able to break out and make it international?
-The Greek scene is something to get more noticed and appreciated. We’re having so many great bands here, producing really good music!
But of course, national scene is very important too, also too difficult to be part of it. It would be a lie not saying that every band’s dream is to have a huge break out and make it international…but on the other hand let’s take it step by step and do our best.. if it’s meant to happen..it will…!

Rock and metal has come a long way since the early 70s but still some people’s attitudes towards it seem to be left in the stone age. How accepted is metal in your country? Is it like in Finland where it seems to come with the mother’s milk?
-In Greece nowadays rock and metal are more acceptable than were some years before. People have realized that rock and metal are genres of music like every other genre and paying more attention not only on the music but on the lyrics too.

What does the future hold for you?
-We’ve just started to write songs for our second album and of course as many live shows as we can!!!
