If you want to thrash you might as well thrash with CENTRATE. I’ve just checked them out and I like what I see. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-We were very surprised how fast and uncomplicated we found the bandname. The name Centrate is an artifical word that‘s out of the words „centre of hate“. It was the result of a brainstorming and shall reflect the wrath of the trash metal.

As I am new to your band perhaps a short introduction might be in order?
-The band was formed in 2010. At this time Manu searched musician to form a band. A friend of Manu introduced him Niki and they talk about the idea to start up a trash metal music project. The next member was Marcel. Niki knew him since his childhood and he take the job of the bass player. After that we were looking for a second guitar player. Chris was the perfect guy for this. At this time Niki played guitar and did the vocals as well. After a while a friend of us, Tobi, joined the band and take the guitar playing part from Niki. So that he could concentrate only on the vocals.

As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
-Most of the songs we written in the first half of 2016. All songs were formed in our rehearsal room by the whole band. Most of the time Tobi (guitar) start with a new riff and then we worked with this idea to create a song. We play Thrash Metal with influences of the 80’s Bay Area. But we try to mix it with modern parts and our own style. You have to take care that you are only inspired by your favorite bands and muscians, but not to copy them. Sometimes it is not easy. You have to find your own kind of style.

When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
-This is a strange question. What can we answer? No, we are just a little band from the underground. It doesn’t feel like anything great at this moment. 😉

How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-In the last few years we learned a lot. It‘s very important to make professional bandphotos, homepage and CD- artwork. It‘s a hard business with a lot of good and talented bands. The first impression counts and today the music isn‘t the only thing which is important. It’s the whole package. It’s also necessary to be present in the social media like Facebook, Twitter etc. You have to consider many things.

What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-The main issue of our first album „Ritual“ are different types of rituals. For example voodoo and exorcism rituals. In general we also have songs with other issues, like world conspiracy or war.

Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-Metalfans love to collect CD’s and LP’s. For this reason we suppose that digital music can’t kill the traditional CD and LP. It’s hard to earn money just with the sale of CD’s.

Where will the future of formate end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-Watch Terminator. Robots will rule the world and take the control.

How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experience you like?
-For us it’s very important to play live and meet new people and music lovers. It makes fun to perform or own songs on stage. We love our songs and are convinced of them. When we play live, we could see the reactions of the audience and get a feedback. This is very cool.

What lies in the future?
-Sex, Drugs and Rock’n Roll!!! 🙂 No serious, of course we want to play as many shows as possible. We hope we can start a European tour. As well we are working on songs for a new album. Pretty much to do.
