Besides being a track off my fave Exodus album CHEMIKILL is also the name of this British thrash metal act. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
-WELL ALL WE DID FORTHE NAME WAS A WE KNEW IT HAD TO HAVETHE WORD KILL IN IT ,
SO WE THREW NAMES INTO MY HAT N PULLED IT OUT WE HAD THE NAMES LIKE NUKILLER ECT BUT CHEMIKILL CAME OUT FIRST
There are so many genres and sub-genres of metal today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style of metal you play?
-I THINK OUR STYLE ORIGINAL STYLE WAS THRASH METAL AS I ( GAZ ) WAS INTO IT IN A BIG WAY SLAYER ,METALLICA, EXODUS ECT
BUT AS THE YEARS WENT ON WE STARTED SOUNDING MORE POWER METAL
I SUPOSE BUT TO ME N DAMO ITS JUST WHAT COMES OUT OF US MUSICALY
What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-THINK WE INFLUENCE EACH OTHER OK OUR HEROES ARE BLACK SABBATH , JUDAS PRIEST , MORE OLD SCHOOL STUFF N THEN THE NEWISH STUFF SLAYER , METALLICA , EXODUS, SLIPKNOT ,TESTAMENT ECT
N WE MASH IT ALL UP N ADD OUR OWN TOUCH IDONT HTINK ANYONE IS DOING WHAT WE DO ,I THINK OTHER BANDS PICK A TYPE OF MUSIC N GO WE WANNA DO THAT BUT FROM THE START ,
YES WE HAVE THE INFLUENCES BUT ITS A SOUND ALL OUT THERE ON ITS OWN NO OTHER BAND SOUND LIKE WE DO
How important is it to have a message as a band?
-OUR MESSAGE HAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE , JUST GET UP THERE AND ENJOY WHAT YA DOING , I THINK THATS WHY WEVE LASTED SO LONG , WE HAVE FUN N TAKE NOTHING TOO SERIOUS
Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
-SOMETIMES IF ITS A BIG GIG WELL WEAR DIFFERENT STUFF TO WHAT WEDE PLAY IN SAY THE WEEK BEFORE AT A PUB GIG WHICH IS A MORE RELAXED ATMOSPHERE ,
WHERE A BIGGER GIG IN A CLUB CIRCUIT VENUE THEN WE ADOPT A BIT OF AN IMAGE, BUT ITS THE MUSIC THAT IS IMPORTANT MORE IN THE END AND HOW ITS PORTRAYED OVER TO THE AUDIANCE
How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-YEA IVE ALWAYS BELIVED IN A GOOD ALBUM COVER N GREAT ARTWORK HENCE I USUALY DO THAT MY SELF OR GET SOME ONE IN WHO INVISIONS WHAT I WANT TO SEE AND I THINK THE CHEMIKILL LOGO IS STRIKING ENOUGH
What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
-THINK RESPECT IS OK EVERYONES FREINDLY WEVE NEVER HAD ANYONE WITH A EGO IN THIS BAND AT ALL ,WE JUST TAKE THE PISS OUTTA ANYONE WHO STARTS PLAYING THE PRIMA DONNA ATTITUDE BUT THEY SOON COME BACK TO REALITY WITH A BUMP LOL,
How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
PRETTY GOOD ,WEVE HAD OUR STUFF PLAYED IN CBGBS IN NEW YORK YEARS BACK ,AND BEEN ON RADIO 1 ECT N PLAYED SOME PLACES WEDE THINK WEDE NEVER PLAY AND ITS BEEN GREAT TRAVELING N MEETING AND MAKING NEW FANS ECT , BIGGEST SUPRISE WAS WHEN WE PLAYED THE DAMES OF DARKNES FESTIVAL A FEW YEARS AGO
SUPPORTING DELAIN ,WE JUST GOT UP THERE AND DID OUR THING ,AND THE AUDIANCE WENT NUTS CHANTING BACK AND PUNCHING THE AIR ECT I THINK WE MADE A FAIR FEW NEW FANS THAT DAY OUR CD AT THE TIME SOLD OUT IN A COUPLE OF MINS AWSOME STUFF
Is playing live still a great way to get few fans to discover you?
-YEA I THINK IT IS N SENDING OUT A FEW TRACKS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE COMING TOTHE GIGS ,SO THEY CAN GET THERE MATES N FREINDS TO LISTEN OT WHO WE ARE
AND HOPEFULY START A CHAIN REACTION OFF TO GET MORE PEOPLE DOWN TO THE VENUE TO WATCH , WELL WE ALL KNOW WE ARE A GREAT LIVE BAND AND HAVE FUN ITS ALL ABOUT HOW YOU PORTRAY THE MUSIC IN THE LIVE SITUATION, IF YOU STAND THERE NO ONES GONNA REALY GET INTO IT , IF YOU HAVE A BIT OF BANTER
AND JUMP AROUND LIKE A LOONY TUNE YOU GET A GOOD REACTION , PEOPLE REMEMBER YOU BETTER
What does the future have in its womb?
-WELL THIS YEAR 2016 IS OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY ,SO HOPEFULY A FEW MORE GIGS AND MAKE NEW FANS ACROSS OUR FAIR ISLE AND HOPEFULY AROUND THE WORLD
SO COME AND CHECK US OUT IF WERE PLAYING LOCAL ,WE SHOULD HAVE A NEW ALBUM OUT THIS YEAR TOO AND MAYBE A DVD TOO SO ALL THE BEST FROM GAZ , DAMON , EMMA , MARCIN AND THANK YOU ANDERS FOR INTERVIEWING US FOR BATTLEHELM.COM
