CRAVING ANGELS is a US metal band that I had no prior relationship with but how turned out to be really cool. So I had to interview them. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
¬-CRAVING ANGEL was one of the original angels (like with Michael and Gabriel – not the fallen angels) that fought in the war for Heaven. Long after the war, this unknown angel (which may have actually been a pseudo-name for several of the angels) longed-for (or craved) the old days of chaos. Hence depicted in lost Italianpaintings and sculpture as “the Craving Angel”

There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
-Three guys got together that had similar musical performance history in the Minneapolis area. Jimmy worked with Buddy before, and Erick also worked with Buddy. So a common friends moreorless… There have been so many changes in the definition of “hard rock” in the past 20 years, and even more with the “heavy metal” genre. I don’t consider us “Heavy Metal” – I think our style is retro-hard rock. But not 80’s hard-rock like Scorpions, maybe more 90’s like Stone Temple Pilots.

What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-You would have to ask Jimmy – speaking for him, I would say that some of his stuff comes from a Dark place. He may have some personal issues to work out. But we like him.

How important is it to have a message as a band?
-No message – just enjoy the music, and turn it up loud – and thrash on some songs like we do..

Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
-Yes and No. We are Older, but still rock. Rock is in the heart, not the hair (yet we have most of our hair still). Its more how you play than looks. You can spot a slacker or faker in a band, no matter how cool he or she looks.

How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-Cover art is a lost symbol of Rock, due to the CD jewel small size, and apathy kinda. We hired a local painter to create a full size painting on canvas, no concept group-shot or Photoshop crap. That was an agreed decision we are very pleased with. Cover-Art importance may make a comeback (we hope).

What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
-We have not performed locally in many years, nor with this lineup. If this album sells like we hope it will, we will be ready for a full-on show. Touring even if that is indicated. Bring it on. All members of the group are long-time known in Minneapolis for several projects and well-known groups. But Cavng Angel is our baby now – and we are ready to start the 3rd album very soon.

How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
-Very hard. We are responding to several magazines (assuming in Europe) without even knowing from where exactly. we would love to see what is printed and what you think of Craving Angel music. We will talk to anyone though, and appreciate the attention!

Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
-Not so much yet, see earlier response about album sales. Social Media is great of course, and Minotauro Record is doing a great job for us.

What does the future have in its womb?
– A new third Craving Angel album will available in 2018. We are solid and will exist, we will answer…
