DARK INTRANCE

In a world were there are so many bands to keep track of I want to bring my two cents in presenting you to this interview with DARK INTRANCE. Anders Ekdahl ©2019

Every band has to introduce their music to new people. What is it that you want people to get from listening to you guys?
-What i want is that people hear that my work as a drum player , bass player , guitarist , and singer is unique .
It is possible that some persons like this kind of music. For me it would not be a problem to be listened to only in foreign countries and not in France .
In fact in France the media rarely broadcast this style of music .

How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
.I chose this group name so that the listener can discover my dark world each song is an interpretation .
The name Dark Intrance comes from the Scorpions . I discovered this group at the age of nine in 1980 thanks to my brother . It changed my life ,
Intrance was my favorite album . Dark Intrance pays tribute to this album.

Everybody is influenced by certain things. What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
-All my referencies are from Scandinavia : Tiamat , The 69 eyes , Grand magus , Amorphis , Dark tranquility they inspired me and other groups a lot.
what i am trying to do is to differenciate my voices , in each song of the EP, the voices are different . It goes from shouting to sweeter songs like in « My ways ».

When you formed did you do so with the intent of knowing what to play or did you do so from the point of having a band name and then picking a sound? How did you settle on the name/sound combo?
-My musical orientation are very various . I listen to many metal styles ( Thrash , Death , Heavy , Black , Stooner ) .But what i prefer is Rock metal and old school thrash . That is why i have created Dark Intrance. I wanted to express my ideas through music. I have recorded my album in my own home studio .
I have spent a lot of time to study the sound to be close to studio sound .

I believe that digital is killing the album format. People’s changing habit of how they listen to music will result in there being no albums. Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-It can be a problem for many artists but in my album there is a link between the songs . So i hope that listeners will download more than on song .
You will always prefer to have a CD in your hand. Personally i buy all the CDs and the vinyle of my favorite groups from the beginning to now.

What part does art-work and lay-out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-I do not create concept albums. My songs are about various themes . There is so much to say about human weaknesses .There is no limit on this topic.
I can talk about unhappiness , religion , our national icon « Jeanne d’arc « , as well as peace in the world with « My ways «
For my creating a song is composed of two parts . The artistic dimension is 50% It is the most difficult and unpredictable . The other 50% are layout play and are in my view easier to control .

Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote your music? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way?
-Facebook has helped artists reach a new audience . Having your music live on youthube gives people the choice to support their favorite groups and discover other ones . But i prefer to let my label do the promotion . They are more professional than me on this point .

When you play in a band, does that make you feel like you are a part of a scene, of something bigger and grander?
I do not think i belong to a specific scene . Even it is essentially gothic metal , fans can perceive as they want . The song « My ways « is accessible for many persons beyond metal listeners . I am not sectarian in my musical preferences . I can as well listen to jazz , funk , and pop music or play these music styles . What the audience brings us is a feeling of self achievement .

How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?>
-I do not think it is necessary to do concerts to be famous . If the fans like your album since the beginning then you can wait before doing concerts in a second time. Currently i am only working on creation . once the album are broadcast i will decide with the opportunities for me .

What will the future bring?
-I am working on my second solo project with the name AmnegA ( Thrash, death metal ) . Then i will recorded a new album for Dark Intrance .
Thank you for your interest in my music and passion .
