¨DARK ZODIAK is a German metal band. It should be enough to just mention this for you to check them out. ©2015 Anders Ekdahl
Can you talk about a specific sound that you fit into, like teutonic thrash or Swedish melodeath?>
-We mix elements of thrash- and deathmetal, prefer midtempi-killer-guitar-riffs and our female front growls like a thunderstorm.
When you formed how easy was it to pick up a thread as to where your sound was going??
-The first two members of Dark Zodiak had made progmetal and blues in their musician history. They found DARK ZODIAK and decided to step on the gas and become faster and harder. The other members included their ideas and our deathmetal voice completed the sound.
How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-In our opinion „ZODIAC“ sounds fascinating. We added the „DARK“ because it becomes more evil and fits to the genre. And the „K“ at the end of „ZODIAK“ makes it uniqe.
How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-We don´t create a special image. We love making music together and having fun and that´s what we want to give to our audience. And to chat with fans at our merch desk after a show is an absolute pleasure for us.
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-To be honest, we didn´t think and discuss a lot about the art work. We used ressources in the band and Simone painted her message of the song see you in hell. Our first longplayer has been very selfmade and that´s why it has been suitable to design the art work by ourselves. Next CD will be a new story…
How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
-It is necessary and can be helpful for bands to join facebook and youtube. Therefore we use it. But we focus on live concerts and prefer real contacts.
When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-In the band we are friends and we enjoy our meetings. And at a concert we enjoy the friendly athmosphere in metal communities.
How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot so on your own?
-There are millions of great bands today! So it is important to attract attention. A label can support you to be noticed, to look more interesting, can give its connections. But it isn´t a must have.
How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-Yes, booking is a hard business and you have to be dedicated. We often use friendships to other musicians. We invite bands and organize our own events in our region and they invite us again to their locality. But gigs abroad…so far only in switzerland, we like the metal scene there very much.
What will the future bring
-We hope awsome new songs, a lot of great gigs with a marvelous atmosphere, new fans and always total fun! Thank you for your interest and the interview!
