I keep digging and I’ve yet to come up empty for new bands to feature. DEAD BEHIND THE SCENES is yet another new acquaintance. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-We think that the band’s name must be something that represent the band and that can get people’s attention.
the band needs to find a name that is good for every member, every musician should feel comfortable with his band’s name, so that he can feel comfortable even when he plays.
What was it that made you want to do the band?
-we were just a bunch of angry little kids when we started playing. at the beginning of our project, in 2010, we just wanted to play as loud as we could in order to vent our rage and our desire to make music. we come from a little town, playing music has always been a way to get out of that kind of conformism that rules the life in almost every little city.
Then in 2011, when Chris joined the band (our drummer), we started playing songs that were something more than just noise, and we began to tour in the Milan area.
What is your definition of the metal you play?
-Our Music is a mix of several music genres, so it’s really hard to give a definition to it. every member of the band listens to different kinds of music , we’re very in fluenced by alternative rock/grunge and noise bands like Placebo, mudhoney, sonic youth, queens of the stone age and the cure and also by prog metal and rock bands like Dream theater, Emerson Lake and Palmer and AREA.
If we were forced to give a name to our music genre we would call it “SCENES ROCK”, so that it would be related to our band name Dead Behind the Scenes.
How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-the main composer of the band is the singer and rythim guitarist Dave Bosetti, but usually our songs come out just jamming in the rehearsal room. when we write a song we try to sense our deepest emotions and focus on them. art and music come from the inside of us, from our heart. we think that a musician should silence the rational part of his mind to compose a good riff.
Where do you find your inspiration to create?
-we take inspiration from everything that happens in our life. we often write songs that are related to the emotions that we’re feeling in that moment.
How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-we work a lot on the graphic side of the band. we always try to find something that is tune with the band, and also something that can make people say “oh look at the flyer! It’s wonderful!”, sometimes people get in touch with the graphic side before than the music one. So it’s very important to work on it and we think that it’s another way to let our creativity out.
Do you find that there is a greater freedom in working with digital than working with physical?
-we think that digital made musician and producers job easier, the problem is that nowadays it’s plenty of people that download a recording software and pretend to be the best producers in the world.
we think that trying to record your own music by yourself it’s a good thing and can make you learn a lot of things, but if you have never studied or worked in a recording studio and you ask money to record people’s songs…well…you’re criminal.
Are there any limitations to digital? Can you do everything you like?
-It’s really hard to explain it but we think that even if digital is faster and easier to use, it doesn’t have a “soul”. physical stuff has its own sound, something we think that can’t be replaced.
Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-we fit in our own scene. As I said before it’ really hard to give a definition to our band, so I don’t know in which scene we belong, listen and support us in order to create a new scene!!
What does the future hold?
-we hope to tour as much as we could and to find new fans and labels willing to work with us! if anyone is willing to organize a concert or a tour write on our facebook page “Dead behind the Scenes”, our new ep , the “White EP”, is available on Spotify, iTunes and several other websites!
