I like when a band spend some time on coming up with a really cool band name. like DEATHRONED has. ©2016 Anders Ekdahl
You have one of these names that tells me that some thought has been involved in the choice. How hard was it to come up with the name?
-We spent a lot of time scratching our heads to find a cool band name and after a dozen of stupid propositions (the most stupid ones were actually brought by our former guitar player ) we came up with the name “Deathroned” which is a blend of “Dethroned” and “Death”, so Deathroned means Dethroned by Death.
Could you give us a short introduction to the latest album?
-The Curse of Power is the result of 3 friends who don’t give a fuck about sounding like this or that but who just want to play what they like, The Curse of Power is a straight in your face thrash metal EP, it’s 17 minutes of fast, aggressive and riff leaded music. It begins with a short and slow intro just to prepare yourselves for the violence the 4 songs deliver.
What would you say have been the single greatest influence on your sound?
-The greatest influence on our sound, we would say it’s 80s Thrash Metal as a whole. We are fans of the pioneer bands and this is why Deathroned naturally sounds like this. We’re not into modern / triggered production so we kept it raw and natural.
What is the metal scene like in your area? Do you feel that you are a part of a scene?
-If by “our area” you mean the Paris area, then the scene is shit, there’s not much good metal bands around but in France, there are some good yet few good bands / bands we like and get along with like Thrashback, Hexecutor, Skelethal, Mortal Scepter… We don’t really feel like there’s a scene we’re part of.
Something I have often wondered about is if you feel that you are part of something bigger and greater when you play in a band, that you are part of a movement sort of?
-We’re fortunate to be 3 friends who like 80s metal, who gets the chance to play the music that we love and we’re fortunate to play for crowds who appreciate metal like we do. It’s as simple as that.
When you play the sort of metal you play I guess you cannot have birds and bees on the cover of your album? What is a great album cover to you?
-We could have birds and bees on our cover album haha ! As long as they have their place in the message we deliver ! A great cover album ? A cover that gets your attention, the cover is the first thing you see, it must convince you to listen to the album if you’ve never heard of the band before, that’s why we got Jon Whiplash (Skelethal’s drummer) to work with us because we knew that Jon would be the man.
What is your opinion on digital verses physical? Is digital killing music?
-It’s fine for us, as long as you support the band and like it, you can get the EP on digital or physical but if you download it illegally without supporting the band, you’re a dick and it works for every band.
When you play live is it a happening or do you see it more as a party?
-When we play live, we see it as a party. For us, it’s just good friendly violent fun (if you don’t get this one, you’ve got a lot to learn) we love seeing people coming to party with us, bang their head, mosh or whatever makes them happy.
What would you like to see the future bring?
-Obviously, a full length album quickly. The first songs are written and currently worked on, we hope to play many shows and get out of France to play gigs as much as possible
