ELECTRIC GUITARS is some of the coolest stuff I’ve heard in a while. If you like your hardrock guitar oriented and with cool melodies then you should check this one out. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
Mika: Well – we wanted to signal that this band is all about guitar, and that we could go anywhere in that direktion. The first albums are a lot og electric guitar in different styles. Rock, Blues, Hard Rock, modern ect.
Soren: Yeah, just make it clear: NO saxophone in the band! lol…
I wanted to start a band in the 80s but couldn’t fin d the right people to do so with. What was it that made you want to do the band?
Mika: I think it was the dream of more guitar. Working together making music we love. We both had made solo albums but wanted to go and make a project and tour together, so here we are 5 years later 3 albums and 1 DVD and +300 shows in DK, Sweden, USA, Germany, France and Norway.
Soren: We both had a LOT of bands back in the days, but for some reason it really works very well this time. The band, the music, the shows etc…
With so many genres and sub-genres of metal today what is your definition of the music you play?
Mika: Classic Rock and something a little heavy’er…
Soren: Stoner pop meets classic rock
How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
Mika: We try them together in the studio – work on it the hole band and arrange it.
Soren: Mika and I write the songs, but we arrange them in the studio as a band..
I am fascinated by how people can still come up with things that hasn’t been done before, chord structures that hasn’t been written, sentences that hasn’t been constructed before. Where do you find your inspiration to create?
Mika:The lyrics is From the everyday life, things that happen, stuff we read – movies we see. Stories we hear.
Soren: I hear chords from pop songs that i translate into hard rock, I hear melodies in folk music that inspires me as well etc etc.. “Open your eyes and ears” is my way of living life.
How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
Mika: We have two guys Søren Lund and Martin Bubandt that create our cover ect. They are fantastic and good friends.
Soren: We like it simple, black and white, stylish and not to flashy
I get the feeling that more and more metalheads too are just downloading single tracks. Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
Mika: I thing the vinyl is bringing back the album, we sell more and more vinyl and less and less CD’s. Vinyl makes you listen to the album and not only one or two songs. I grew up with vinyl so im very pleased that that direction is coming back. I know a lot download only a song, but that is also ok, if they buy Electric Guitars – smiley!
Soren: In 5 fives years, it will all look different again… But the hard rock scene is very loyal. People still buy CD’s and vinyl in this wonderful community of rock n roll…
Are we killing our beloved metal scene by supporting digital downloading or can anything positive come from supporting single tracks and not albums? Will the fan as we know him/her be gone soon?
Soren: Look at Netflix. They are now producing their own TV shows. Imagine Spotify having a record label… That’s where I think it should go.
How did you manage to get the DAD guys to guest on the album? What does it mean to have people as guests on you album?
Mika: We have known they guys many years but when Soren was stand in for the bass player “Stig” he got even more related. Soren Tell the story?
Soren: Stigge broke his arm on the second show of a full DAD summer tour. Cobber called me, asked: Do we know any bass players who can jump in and save us? And I was like: Send me the god damn setlist bro and I’ll do it! lol… I know the song very well because DAD was a part of my youth.. I knew all the songs on guitar! So the day after, I was on stage fronting 500 people with a bass in my hand, playing DAD song that I grew up with. You think that was a blast? Oh yes!
What does the future hold?
Mika: More Electric Guitars! We want to go more out of Denmark! Soren has some cool contacts after touring with Gleen Hughes.
Soren: Yeah, it’s all looking good. We are touring EU in the future, 100%!
