I know that it seems like every band I interview are cool but that is the fact. EMPIRESFALL is another cool band that you ought to check out. Anders Ekdahl ©2018
Every band has to introduce their music to new people. What is it that you want people to get from listening to you guys?
-A Pure, aggressive and powerfull sound, no fake sound, what you`ll hear is real. We dont use effects on our instruments. You can hear many Directions/elements of Metal when you listen to Empiresfall. A good mixture of heavy and thrash. May be a trip back to the god old days with a litle refreshed touch.
How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-Well as I started the band, I wanted a bandname that sounds powerfull and tragic at the same time.Empiresfall seemed to fit pretty good. And the reason why it is written as one word is….it looks way more like a bandname then “Empires Fall”. Well ..my opinion. 🙂
Everybody is influenced by certain things. What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
-There are so many bands that have influenced us. Dennis and I knowing eachother since first grade. So we both shared almost the same music since we were kids. Of course it changed a bit over the years. We both have a wide spreaded musically interests. As same as Mad and Nico.
We all like different tunes of Metal. And may be this is why we sound like we sound.
When you formed did you do so with the intent of knowing what to play or did you do so from the point of having a band name and then picking a sound? How did you settle on the name/sound combo?
-I like this question 😀 I would say first bandname and then picking the spound. Well if you have a Band name like “Empiresfall” its definitely a no go to write and sing something like a ballad or soft tunes. Its ok when there is a guitar riff which is melodic or even clean parts. As long as it fits the song or at least sounds not to trendy or tenderly. And until now we go pretty good by that way.
I believe that digital is killing the album format. People’s changing habit of how they listen to music will result in there being no albums. Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-Pop Music or hip hop works that way I know. But for Metal releasing just songs and no longer Cd albums would be really sad I think. I always liked to buy an album, flipping through the pages, reading lyrics and try to capture what the band wants to tell me by the cover artwork and pictures inside the booklet. I would be really pissed off if there is someday just a track and a thumbnail image. And I believe that I am not the only one who would be really upset by that.
What part does art-work and lay-out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-Like I said… its definitely a “work together” process. The Artwork should fit to the Music and Lyrics. People should see something when they hear the tunes and look at the artwork. Its important to get those two things together as one piece.
Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote your music? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way?
-I would say its more work now for every band. You have to do promote your stuff on the old and on the new way. But its fun too. 🙂
When you play in a band, does that make you feel like you are a part of a scene, of something bigger and grander?
-Of course it does. But that feeling does come with responsibility. Some bands just try to make music just by fun. And thats more than ok for me. But in the end it costs a lot of money. Thats a fact and that really sucks. But its like it is. So you better think twice before you spend all your money for expensive stuff like recording or even getting a website. I can tell you there are many people out there trying to get/steal your hard earned money. Fake studios and fake webdesigner just many fake people.
How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-We like to play live shows. We really do. Its still the best way to show people that you are really capable of playing your stuff live. i`ve seen many bands who sounded really good on cd or tape. But weren`t able to play their own music live or even close to the stuff on the record. And thats sad. Playing live is also the best way to get immediately response or reaction from the audience and the fans. So yes…touring/and live shows are still the best way to promote and spreading the word of youre band.
What will the future bring?
-No one knows 😀 We hope the best possible score for us as a band. And may be more gigs and touring as we had in the past Its never enough. So if someone wants us on their venue…feel free to contact us.
Thank you so much for this interview and thank you very much for your support.
Cheers and way more beeers
