ESCALANE is another cool Finnish band that you should pay attention to. So read this interview. ©2016 Anders Ekdahl
Could you please introduce the band to us?
-Four piece female fronted pop metal band from central Finland. Heavy riffs, catchy choruses and great jokes since 2013!
When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going??
-Picking up the direction wasn’t hard at all since Juha is responsible for almost all of the music and lyrics and the band was basically formed to bring those ideas alive. So the direction was clear right from the start.
How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-The name “Escalane” derives from the words “escape lane”. We wanted a unique and a bit abstract name and for us the band is sort of an escape from the rest of the stuff we do outside the band.
How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Having a good image is obviously very important nowadays. Everything we do we try to make look as good as possible. Especially the Instagram hashtags.
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-Simo Heikkinen is responsible for the great artwork of our album. We gave him some themes and songs from the album and he created the cover art from that. We couldn’t be happier. Having a good artwork is very important, as it is the first thing many people see from us. It’s also important that it represents the style of music.
How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
-No problem so far. Keep the hype coming, we can take it!
When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-For sure. The rock/metal scene in Finland is big and strong, and we’ve been getting some good comments from other countries as well. Although this makes it a bit hard to stand out from all the bands it’s great to have such a strong community.
How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do
that you cannot so on your own?
-Our label has done a huge work for us in the promotion and distribution. The technology today makes it possible to do a lot of thing without a label, but for us having Inverse Records as a partner has saved us from shitloads of work. Hats off to them!
How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-We try to tour as much as we possibly can. So far the only gigs outside Finland has been a two week tour in China in late 2014. It was awesome and we learned a lot. Hopefully we’ll get to tour abroad again! The sooner the better!
What will the future bring?
-A kickass debut album, hopefully great feedback, as many shows as possible, intensive headbanging, drinking Koskenkorva Valhalla and even more fantastic Instagram hashtags.
