ETERNAL TORTURE is another good German band that needs to be checked out. Anders Ekdahl ©2014
Is the name important in establishing what kind of metal it is that you play?
-We think that only modern bands can be sorted into a genre by their name.
Because they have such trendy names like “Dead like swansea” or “I wrestled a bear once” for example.
All of them. We know that our name is more “traditional” for a modern sound but we like that.
Just so we know what we are dealing with could you please give us a short introduction to the band?
-The band was founded in 2008. We are five young man which are between 20 and 30 years old.
We come from the beautiful south of Bavaria and playing Deathcore with Dubstep elements.
How do you find your sound? Do you take a whole bunch of influences and mix them together to make it your brew?
-We like our sound very well. The sound on our new album ” Lacerate the global hate ” is like we wanted it.
We have many influences because every bandmember has his own and brings these in.
Of course are bands like Whitechapel, Slipknot or The Browning important for us.
Is art work and lay out still as important when more and more people download legally music to their phones or ipads/computers?
-A good cover is very important to us. Most people who download the album are seeing the artwork on the computer or phone.
And we sell the CD also on our concerts and therefore the eye still listens in! The Artwork finally serves the visual support of the lyrics and the concept.
What are your feelings on this development of digital replacing physical?
-It is ok if the fans download for themselves the music. As long as it is legal!
We are strict against an illegal download! A download is ok if somebody prefer it. It only must be just also paid!
And digitalization is already normal in the 21st century.
Do you agree that digital is killing the music scene as we know it now?
-It only kills if it’s not legal and makes much more difficult. Specially for young bands which must prove themselves first.
How important is playing live today? Is there still a live scene to talk about? Do people still go to shows? To me it seems that it is all big tour packages or festivals that are left.
– It is more important than ever to play live! Only Facebook likes didn´t help you if you don´t play live shows! Metal is live music!
Of course the show must be good!
In south Bavaria, our home, all of us are organized well and they´re actually always shows with local bands too. This makes us proud!
The people are coming to the shows to have a good time. That´s very good!
How has the internet changed the feeling of community in being a local band playing local shows? Does it still feel that you are a product of your surrounding area?
-We´re still playing local shows with other local bands because we like it! But the Internet makes it more easier to play shows in other countries or cities.
I guess that most bands go through one or two lineup changes. How do you as a band contain your sound when one member leaves and a new one arrive?
-We are also one of that bands who has two lineup changes. ?? But it was not bad.
The new ones have brought some new ideas or influences and it helped us a lot to finding our own sound.
What would you like to see the future bring with it?
-Oh we really like to play a show with our favorite band whitechapel for example.
And we hope to have many more years together, as band and friends!
