EVIL DRIVE

There is a bit of hype surrounding Finland’s EVIL DRIVE. And so deservingly. This is too good to be missed. ©2016 Anders Ekdahl

Could you please introduce us to the band
-We are Evil Drive from Finland .We wanted to create a band with a sound that doesn’t exist in the current metal scene. Our band line-up is: Viktoria Viren-Vocals, Ville Wiren-Guitars, Marko Syrjälä-Bass, Niko Huusari – Guitars, Juha Beck – Drums

What has been the greatest catalyst in forming your sound?
-Everyone in this band has played with many different band in the past. Everyone in this band has slightly different taste of metal so that’s the key. Someone brings in some 80’s elements, someone else adds the trash metal element and the list goes on and on. That’s how the sound of Evil Drive is created. We want to be raw and brutal band but we also love catchy melodies and melodic bridges. So overall, it can be said that Evil Drive’s sound is a combination of our personalities.

How hard is it to record and release new songs?
-It’s not hard at all. Actually it was lot of fun do the recording sessions but sometimes mixing and editing part becomes a nightmare. But it wasn’t the name of the game this time because our producer/recording engineer Juuso made things quite easy for us. So recording was pretty easy and speaking about release… That’s the reward of hard work so that’ feels ultimate good!

Has digital made it easier to get your music released?
-We don’t know… maybe it is these days? But we all are still old school guys (and a girl) We still love to buy physical albums from record shops. We love the real deal but if someone wants to do buy digital stuff instead, that’s fine too. We are not the right people to say which is right and which is not.

If you release your music digitally is there a risk that you release songs too soon, before you are ready compared to releasing them on cd?
-You know, this is year 2015 so in real life everything is leaked before it should be … It’s a crappy thing but what can you do with that? Nothing. The whole Internet thing has two sides, good and bad. Hopefully the real fans do understand that.

What kind of responses have you had to your recorded music?
-The album is coming out in 22’th of January so at this stage we only have got a couple of reviews from various magazines. Overall the reviews released so far have been very positive and that gives us more power in the future. And of course we have played our album for friends and trusted people and the feedback has been really positive.

We live in a world where there are no real distances between people communicating anymore. What has been the most surprising contact so far?
-You’re right. We live in a world where there are no real distances anymore because of the technology. If you want it… everything you do or say is available in few minutes, sometimes it’s not about if you want it or not. So sometimes it’s scary but when we are speaking about the band we see that in positive way. And about surprising contacts… We’ve been contacted by people from all around the world. We have received a lot of contacts from USA, Europe, Russia and sometimes even from Africa and South American countries. And what they usually ask is that if we are going to play sometime soon in their country? And the answer goes: “We’ll do our best and let’s see what will happen in the future.

Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community playing in a metal band?
-Of course. We think that everyone who is listening metal or plays in a metal band is a part of something greater, let’s call it metal community for example. We know who we are and so do you?

What is the live scene like for you? Do you feel that playing live helps building a bigger following?
-We think that playing live is always rewarding and its one of the greatest thing you could do in life. It’s fun, it’s important and without doing gigs nobody knows about you or your band, no matter how great you sound in your rehearsal place. It’s impossible to get a good following without playing great gigs as much as possible.

What plans do you have for the future?
-Well… First of all the album is coming out in 22’nd of January. We’ll do lots of promo before and after the release day Then we will do a bunch gigs, and possible tour, every there and now including some important festivals on next summer. At the same time we are already creating new songs and hopefully we will start recordings of the new album on next fall. We will shoot another video during the spring. We hope to reach as many people as possible to reach new fans and spread the word around the world. So the future of Evil Drive seems very good!!!
