With an album that will see release at the end of September it is time that you get acquainted with EVILON. So start here and work your way to the released of the album. Anders Ekdahl ©2018
What kind of vision did you have when you started and how has it changed over the years?
-The vision is and has always been quite simple. We want to take EviloN as far as we possible can, but at the same time we are realistic, we all have families and it’s hard to be seen these days with ALL great bands out there. We are working hard to make unique and good music that stands out, time will tell how far that will take us!
Does location mean anything today? We used to hear about how it was all location, location, location back in the days if you wanted to make it big? That you had to come from a certain place to be sure to make it.
-Yes and no! It’s probably easier to make it big if you live in a big city, in a big city there is first of all more people, more musicians, more and maybe better places to play at, BUT in todays digital world we think it is easier to make it even if you live in a small town like we do.
What is it like to be a in a band and to get to tour all over the world? What kind of feelings do that bring about?
-Well, to be in a band is a great thing! It brings so much joy, solidarity and fellowship, you more or less becomes a family. Ofcourse it takes a lot of work and time to be in a band but it’s worth it in the end!
We have never been on tour but the feeling that you get on the stage is just awesome, all the adrenaline you’ll get and the energy from the crowd is priceless!
What kind of feedback have you had on your music, your latest album and in general? How important is feedback?
-The feedback that we have had is good, it seems like people like what we do and that we are on the right track!
Feedback is very important, it’s like a token that we are doing something that people appreciate!
How do you know that you have written a “hit” song? Is there a particular feeling you get when you know that this is the one, this is the big “make it song”?
-You never know for sure but you can definitely feel that “this COULD” be a”hit” song, there is a couple of song on our upcoming album “Leviathan” that we are particular proud of and that we think could be “hit” songs. Ofcourse we are proud of all of the songs we release but there is some songs you assume will make it better, but you’ll never know!
As I am no musician I will never got to know the difference of analogue and digital. Can you explain the difference to me? what are the pros and cons of analogue V/S digital?
-We assume that you mean physical cd/vinyl VS digital streaming? Some say that the best quality comes from analogue music, some say it’s the same.. We are no experts, but we can still see advantages and disadvantages.
Digital streaming is good becouse you can easily play the music you want to hear no matter where you are, all you need is a mobile basically.
With analogue music you’ll get more than just a song, you will get a full package with a physical cd, cd cover and all the songs gathered, in a way a physical cd feels more real than a playlist on spotify.
If the question was about digital VS analogue recording, we really can’t say much about it, we have no experience about analogue recording, we have always recorded our music digitally.
What is it like to have people you never met liking your music and singing along to it at gigs?
-It’s surreal in a way actually, we have not been playing live that long but already people remember us, remember the songs and wants to take pictures with us etc.etc, it feels surreal but in i good way, we appreciate it!
How important are lyrics to you guys? Do you have any messages that you want to get forward?
-The lyrics is important and the messages is different from different songs depending on the feelings you had when you wrote the song/lyrics.
Some songs is about grief, some is about hope and some is about pure hate!
Joel: Lyrics are extremely important to me since they can be used to convey a kind of message or a short story, in a non-subtle or a subtle way, especially when paired with great music. Essentially for me it’s a way to tell a tale and/or express my feelings in a way you can’t outside music
I love a really cool cover but I get the feeling that today with all this digital uploading/downloading people aren’t that concerned about artwork. How do you feel?
-We think that the artwork is very important, the cd cover is the first thing people will see and if they don’t like the artwork and never heard of the band they will probably not buy the album.
The cd cover is the first impression and it is important that it stands out, but at the same time reflects the album.
What does the future hold?
-We have a couple of gigs this autumn, and our album Leviathan will be released the 28th of September via WormHoleDeath. The album will be released in Europe, Japan and Usa so we are very excited about that!
We hope that the future holds many good news and that people will like the new album as much as we do!
