In an ever changing world it is nice to see that some things to not change. EVO is as angry today as he was in Warfare. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
WARFARE was a massive pain in the butt on the mainstream back in the 80s. The world is as fucked up, or worse, today. Can EVO be the same pain in the ass on the mainstream today? Why has the music world gone all PC today?
-My new album is a complete kick in the teeth to my still hatred of the mainstream. The world is fucked up and always has been. This new album is original filthy and completely over the top, as you’d expect.
When you release a record of any sort what kind of expectations do you have on it? Do you set up goals for it?
-My job is to write, arrange and produce the album. As regards of expectations, this is the very first Warfare album in 25 years so I know it will sell in great numbers.
When you release albums and you go out and play live and people know your songs, how weird is that? That people know what you have written on your own?
-At the moment I have no intention of going out and playing live. Everybody in the metal genre knows the songs already and after 17 albums, they should do.
To me you knew what you’d get when you bought a WARFARE album. Will EVO follow in the footsteps of that aesthetic when it comes to lyrics and art work so that those that bought the WARFARE records will recognize you?
Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community because you play in a band?
-For a start, I do not play in a band. This is a solo album with many special guests and fuck communities.
How hard/easy is it to come up with new songs that that still are you but doesn’t sound like anything you’ve already written?
-The full idea of this brand new album is to sound exactly like the songs I wrote in the 80s only with today’s production.
hat influences/inspires you today? Where do you draw inspiration from? Is it important to have some sort of message?
-The message is always very important and I write lyrics from the street, not dragons and angels bullshit. I draw inspiration from my subconscious and the only thing that inspires me is my own hatred of society.
We hear about what state the record industry is in. Then we hear that CD sales are increasing. As a band that releases records do you notice the state the industry is in?
-I don’t give two fucks about the state of the record industry. The only thing I care about is this new album and as I reiterate, I am not in a fucking band.
What is your opinion on digital verses physical?
-Physical will always come out tops as you get the full package, full design, inner sleeve and outer sleeve and full lyric sheet which is essential when listening to one of my albums.
What lies in the future?
-Fuck knows, hopefully life. It’s hard enough to live in the here and now than thinking about the future. Just go out and buy the album because it’s about time the skin was removed from your ugly faces.
