FEELAMENT

FEELAMENT is a band that I discovered one day browsing Facebook. Check them out Anders Ekdahl ©2018

A band name says more than thousand words, or does it? How important is a band name to get people interested in your music?
Masha.I don’t know for sure about it, but when we were coming up with band name we tried to become original, and especially avoided that “smth of smth” thing. Also band name should be easily searchable and unique, so we took the word “filament” and modified it. You can see solar filament on the cover of our first EP “Feel the moment” with our tell to audience: “Feel it, hear it, breathe it”

When you finish a recording and then sit back and relax, what kind of feelings do you get? Are you glad it is finished? Does the anxiety grow, not knowing if everybody will like it?
Tim. Well, we had some things going on the same time with recording, so i didnt relaxed until the release. And about liking music in general: you can make an absolute genius album (not ours ofc xD), and a lot of people out there will say it’s bad, so it’s meaningless to worry about it

What is it like to be in a studio recording your music? What kind of feelings and thoughts race through your heads?
Masha. Actually we recorded at home, coz we got all required stuff for it. Recording is a hard job, even if you are in warm and known home atmosphere 🙂
Tim. And all that time we struggled to make the best possible tracks, it was literally the only thought in our heads.

Today I get a feeling that the promotion of a band lands a lot on the bands themselves so how does one promote oneself the best possible way in order to reach as many as possible?
-For best self-promotion band should be everywhere your audience is, and sacrifice a lot of time and money, especially in the beginning. Right now we are focused on the social media and live shows, trying to be in every noticeable event. And doing new stuff, ofc!

Today we have all these different sub-genres in metal. How important is that you can be tagged in one of these? Why isn’t metal enough as a tag?
Tim. Tags are only for searching, i guess, so for example if i dont like power metal i will not check out stuff like this

What importance is there in being part of local/national/international scene? Does playing in a band make you feel like you are a part of something bigger? I know it does to me knowing that in some slight way I was a part of the Swedish death metal scene in the 90s.
Tim. We do not have such thing right now, altought we have friendly bands, but it is not enough for new Goteborg =(

Ever since I first got into metal the art work has been a main motivator in buying a record. What part does art work for album covers play in the world of the band?
Yaroslav: Yeah, I think that you’re right. A cover of a CD has very important place, like the “face side” of every product, what you see before use. But by the mean of a cover you can only give an option to your listener for asking himself about the consistency of the album, it must interest that potential fan, whom we wanna catch. But only the well written music compositions and perfect performans on the shows can make the final work in creating your fanzone.
In our case, the main cover gave me a lot of ideas during the arrangement of samples, remaking the rhythm section, some guitar riffs. Also the main part of this influence you can hear in the Intro and Outro tracks. We like it. It adds a very good directed atmosphere to the album in the end.

How important is having a label to back you up today when you can just release your music on any sort of platform online? With the ability to upload your music as soon as you’ve written it the freedom to create has become greater but are there any negative consequences to music being too readily available to fans now that every Tom, John and Harry can upload their stuff?
Masha. Can’t tell much about it, coz we dont work with labels yet. But big labels can go much even for already recognized band. Also i have some skills in digital marketing, so we have a little background in such things ^^ And i think free upload is great, because one can find some awesome stuff easily, and experienced listener always can separate good music from bad one, so that Tom-John-Harry buddies have to work hard to be heard =)

What is a gig with you like? What kind of shows do you prefer to play?
Tim. During our show we try to move our audience as hard as we can, and even if it’s only a few guys in the pit, they will mosh their asses out xDDD

What lies in the future?
Masha. We will support Butcher Babies in Saint-Petersbourg this autumn, and already preparing european spring tour. And we are posting pretty frequently on our FB page (https://www.facebook.com/feelament), check it out! Maybe you will see new music video soon ;p
