FULL NOTHING

At first sight the name FULL NOTHING might not seem that exciting but once you give it a chance you’ll realize that you’re on to something. Anders Ekdahl ©2016

How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-I think it was a process of natural maturing of things. It turns out that I had already composed the entire album and were finishing the pre production & talking to Guillermo one day it came to my mind a clear picture of our music and our lyrics was a constant attempt to fill empty spaces. Harmonizing opposites. Trying to build a glimpse of life from a game of dualities. Full Nothing born there.

As I am new to your band perhaps a short introduction might be in order?
-We say we are a band of Moon Rock. It born in 2012 when Guillermo and I agreed to take to the studio the music I always dreamed of doing. I write lyrics and music, Guillermo is in charge of the arrangements and we both carry forward production. Then we add several musicians who have joined us as a band: Christian Vidal, Charlie Giardina, Fer Scarsella and Juha on lead vocals. It is also important for us to have several singers who can interpret and harmonize melodies that we create … is an important part of the concept of Full Nothing … Several voices. This implies a great challenge for our live performances and Juha has always managed to do it really well.

As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
-The music always comes from within. It depends on my mood. I usually compose melodies accompanied by acoustic guitar. Once the melody and chords are ok it comes the part to set the demo. There, I concentrate on the main structure of the song, I want to convey as a concept and climate, which should be the structure, etc. Once that is set, Guillermo begins with pre arrangements and song production. Meanwhile I’m putting together the final lyrics.

When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
– LOL! Think of a universal movement is the right phrase, music is a way to convey my deepest feelings to other people. Connect with each other. I think that’s the most wonderful thing that can happen to a human being … connect deeply with an absolute stranger through music

How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-This is becoming increasingly important lately, mainly because fans need to see a face and an art besides music. Who he is behind the music is an almost obligatory question. Then we try to work professionally on our image. In the end, it is part of the product. regarding the graphics and art we pay a lot of attention on broadcasting the “Full Nothing” concept. That is key and non-delegable for us!

What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-Important? As much as music. I think the concept and the essence is transmitted together … words and music must work in unison. About the influence that inspires me, I think let me freely carried away by my mood … what comes out of me, I try to make it conscious and express it in words. Many times it is almost a necessity to say things. And when it’s not, I hope that time appears. I never write anything to betray me in the way I seek to live life. I try to be very genuine, is not a matter of “honesty” is a matter of “consistent wit with oneself.” What I try is to be metaphorical, telling stories related to my deepest feelings, try to connect with the other. Many times they are not personal experiences and feelings but records that all human beings have, and serve to create a story.

Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-Clearly, the digital age implies a paradigm shift for the music industry. There will always be music lovers who want to own a physical copy, but today what matters is to get your music to a lot of people …. and this is achieved by much more efficient and practical than a physical disk media.

Where will the future of format end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-Everything in the cloud and accesesible for everyone. And it will pay for the download whoever the band wants to continue producing music for them.

How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experiencevwith you like?
-Right now we are very focused on our second album. We have come together to make a live show in a studio to record audiovisual content. This is new … and will soon be available. But the goal and the hard work is focused on our the 2nd studio album. After launch we will have a lot of songs to get out more extensive tours. Let’s hope so, with several of the musicians of Full Nothing, we know what it is rotated by a tour and we really love it.

What lies in the future?
– Our second studio album. With a lot of new colaborations, much more mature in our composition and our production. I think it will be a consecrating album, to go out and show our fans what Full Nothing can do live!
