If my memory serves me right HOG is slang for motorcycle. Not that I think it really matters for this Swedish band. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
Was it hard to come up with a name? What does the name mean to you? How important is it to have the right name?,
-We were just throwing stuff around, wanting to have a short catchy name. Someone said “HOG” and it stuck.
Who would say have laid the foundation for the kind of sound you have? Who are your heroes musically and what have they meant to you personally and to the sound of your band?
-Wow, that’s a tough one. We’re obviously inspired by everything we hear, but from a riff perspective Fredrik (guitars) would mention Pantera, Metallica, Slayer and Meshuggah among very many others. We have been playing for a long time-100 years all together-and find inspiration from both old and new music. Zander (bass) listens to lots of jazz and have heroes like Jaco Pastorius, Cliff Burton and Lemmy.
When you play slow do you have to think differently arranging the music than if you play faster and vice versa?
-No, it all comes down to getting the right flow in terms of parts and riffs. A song might take a left turn just for the fun of it, but that has nothing to do with tempos.
Will your music work in a live environment? What kind of stage environment would best suit your music; a big stage or a small club?
-We haven’t tried the big stages yet, so we have no idea! We imagine both would work. Though small clubs are really intense and cool, we are headed for bigger venues.
Everybody seems to be disappointed with something once they have released a recording. What would you have liked done differently the last time around?
-Maybe the mastering, perhaps we could have used a little less compression, but all in all its been a great experience to have had our own studio and no one that told us what to do. This is HOG without any compromises.
Is it hard to reach out to all those that might be interested in your music? What alleys have you used to get people familiarized with your band?
-It is quite hard, starting out. “Where do we go?” But we use all available channels, including Facebook obviously. Networking businesspeople and contacts in other bands is another way we try to go.
7. What to you is a great front cover? What should a cover have to make it great?
Something that really catches your eye and triggers you of. We have all been gazing at albumcovers from our favourite bands and find that drawn art can be more useful than a picture of some guys posing.
Do you feel that you are part of a national scene? What is the climate for music in your country?
-In one sense, yes. We are a part of Swedish metal. Though there is no one scene (death, thrash or any other) that we are particularly involved in. The musical climate in Sweden is great with bands playing all over and so much swedish music being played all over the world we can only be proud of being the 3rd biggest music country in the world.
How do one promote oneself the best possible way?
A. Really decide for yourself who you are and were you wanna be.
B. Get going and dont stop.
To HOG this means we had a sit down a few years ago were we talked about how we wanted it and how we wanted others to see us. Since were not 18 we didnt want to try acting or looking that way either which meant to be true to our age and act like it. Four proud gentlemen that behaves like it was the consensus.
What does the future hold?
-The immediate future includes starting another album writing process and continue working the business people and others to make everyone realize that HOG is here and we wont take no for an answer.
