HOMICIDE HAGRIDDEN is a band thatIi am not familiar with at all. But i want to know more abouthem. Anders Ekdahl ©2018
When the band came into creation what was the main purpose for it?
-(Max) the purpose is to take a step forward compared to previous works, writing music is not only a matter of satisfying our ears but of creating something that is a new chapter in the band’s journey, as in all things in life, we need to to tell ourselves that we are better than before
How hard is it to come up with a sound that is all yours? What bits’n’pieces do you pick up from other stuff to make it your sound?
-(Max)It always depends on the type of songs that are written at that time, the transition from that moment to the kind of sound the band will have and the songs themselves I think is natural, the important thing is to make the whole process harmonious and unique and listening to previous records is important because it makes us understand how and how it should play on the record that we currently record. We listen a lot to what we did the last time because this makes the difference between the various productions, this allows us to have more control over the new creations
I have no idea what kind of creative process you guys go through but how hard is it to record and release new songs?
-(Max)By itself it is not the difficulty in creating new songs, the challenge is writing songs that give me taste, writing all the songs I have clear in mind immediately what I want to put in notes and at the base there is always the intention to write fast tracks, that are not interminable and that immediately play in the head of the listener, which is not always easy to admit.
There were some songs that I wrote that immediately gave me great charge, but after a while they ended up not giving me more emotion, but it happens, sometimes I thought I had done a good job and instead I got the opposite effect. But it is my personal opinion
Today technology allows you to record at home and release your music digitally. But in doing so is there a risk that you release only single songs because that is what is demanded to stay atop and therefore you end up killing the album for example?
-(Max)All bands release singles to promote the new album step by step, it’s not our case, I buy records because I want to hear what a band proposes to me in its entirety, I want to hear everything they have to say. Then there may be songs that work more than others but a record is not made from a momentary intention is a set of pieces that tell something, what I regret today is that, there are records that are technically perfect but that do not leave me an emotion inside. Today’s records contain twelve, fifteen songs that in many cases serve only to fill a space, without having that magic of the historical records of those mega bands that still tread the stages. I have the rule of 8, there will never be more than 8 songs in an HOMICIDE HAGRIDDEN’s record , unless we decide to put a bonus track that goes beyond the disc, so it can be a live song maybe , but nothing more
I for one feel that the change in how people listen to music today, by downloading it and expecting to get it for free, will kill music as we know it. What kind of future is there for music?
-(Max)People think that illegally downloading is a good thing, because that’s how it’s been since the Internet is available to the masses.
The real drama is that when something illegal is conceived as legal, there are no more barriers. This phenomenon can not be stopped because it has spread rapidly and wildly. I think if the records were sold at an affordable price maybe and I say maybe the phenomenon declines, but it must change the general culture.
The problem is so enormous that finding solutions is very difficult, perhaps a more moderate price of the records could help, maybe you could make agreements between labels to help stores remain open, so as to buffer the losses from sales, perhaps we could allow official downloads only after a careful verification of the buyer … at the moment the only sure thing is the relationship that you have directly with the fans who come to concerts and who support the bands buying their music and merchandising.
What kind of responses do you get to your music? What has been the thing that has gotten the most attention?
-(Max)When we released “US” the album before “EFFECT LUCIFERO” there was a sub-rumble of rumors about that release that gave me a lot of satisfaction, some said it was the most intense album after the legendary Reign in Blood, others said that was the record that many would have liked to write but that they never did … I had pleasure in reading these stuff because since we started writing those songs we felt a particular magic, something special, I do not know how to say … that was a record that gave us a lot of satisfaction,in that time Valerio start to play with us,then Fabio come in too..a special thing from many point of views.
We live in a world where there are no real distances between people communicating anymore. What has been the most surprising contact so far?
-(Max) when we get the chance to play with Naplam Death in my opinion..i was out of mind when the agency we were with comunicated this to me..when i met the guys of the band has been very special..after that we played with very important acts like Kreator,Behemoth,Decapitated ,Samael and many more, but i always loved Napalm Death and i can say i realized a dream.
Does playing in a band make you feel like you are a part of a greater community? What has music brought with it that you would have otherwise missed out on?
-(Max)I’ve always thought about music like blood … it flows inside you … if you do not follow it ,it suffocates you … it’s something alive … composing music is not complacency is sharing emotions, a journey from which you take energy to give it back again on and on … I can say with certainty that music has been a lifeline for me, otherwise it was for her, I would not be here talking to you …and I’m grateful for this
What is the live scene like for you? Do you feel that playing live helps building a bigger following?
-I do not think there is a single scene there are many layers each one with many differences and characteristics in my opinion there is little naturalness and this suffocates the natural evolution of our music today it seems that it matters more to appear than what you offer musically and I do not like it very much …if you want to become big (something unthinkable today)you have to be lucky that so many things get stuck in the right place at the right time …. there are bands that play all their commitments and I find them fantastic, others that believe that respect for the roles is still important, the band must make the band, the label must make the label and together you try to grow … the tours help a lot, but it seems that a consistency in being able to do are always the usual known, for bands like ours it is unthinkable to be able to stand long tour, so let’s do what we can
What plans do you have for the future?
-(Max) Some things are moving right now, and I’m happy because the album will be released on November 23, and I understand that a certain interest in EFFECT LUCIFERO is moving.
I know that after the release of the album we will play in some European cities with great pleasure but at the moment I do not know exactly where, so soon there will be further news on the band’s future projects.
