Oh boy have I totally missed out on this gem of a metal band. HORRID has been around for what seems like an eternity but it is only now that I’ve discovered them. Replied to the interview did Belfagor (founding member) Anders Ekdahl ©2017
Could you please introduce the band to us?
-Horrid was officially born in 1989. During the years there have been many line up changes, and Belfagor, the founder of the band, is the only original member left. The current line up is completed by Dagon (bass/vocals) and Eligor (drums)
When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going?
– All we want to play is swedish death metal. There are no obstacles in composition process. We know what we want and how it has to sound. There may be slight differences in our albums but you will always listen to pure swedeath Horrid style!
How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-The band started as Rites of Death but it was later changed in Horrid. It is how we define Vatican, their religious lies, political interferences and crimes against humanity.
How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Our image is our consistency. In 27 years of Horrid we saw too many bands drastically change while stating the opposite in interviews. Every full lenght, demo and ep we composed in these years is coherent with our beliefs and our sound.
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-It’s very important. Music and artwork express the same feelings in different ways, defining the unique atmosphere of every release. They complete one another.
How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
-Nowadays you cannot ignore social medias for promoting a band, but one Like on Facebook is not like a fan who screams at your concert, knows the band’s history and its songs. We prefer a hundred real fans than a thousand Likes of people who don’t even know what they’re clicking on.
When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
No, I play for myself, to express my feelings with music, to spread emotions. Too many people play just to show off but don’t get to your very soul.
How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot so on your own?
-We had many labels and they all believed in us and always kept their words. If you play good stuff it’s just a matter of time, you’ll find someone ready to work with you. And even today it is helpful for matters such distribution and promotion. The less we have to deal with other stuff, the more we can focus on music.
How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-We don’t feel like a touring band. Sadly we live in a country not very helpful for musicians and it’s quite difficult to arrange gigs. We always found a lot easier to play in foreign countries. People see Metal in a different way and the support for the underground is so much stronger.
What will the future bring?
-The new album “Beyond the dark border” is ready and you can listen to the first song here MY Very soon we will announce the release date and many other news. Stay tuned!
