Check out this interview I did with. Anders Ekdahl ©2019
How important is the band’s name in giving out the right kind of vibe?
-I THINK IT’S VERY IMPORTANT, ABOVE ALL IT’S A QUICK WAY TO AROUSE INTEREST AND MAKE THOSE WHO DON’T KNOW YOU YET LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC.
I wanted to start a band in the 80s but couldn’t find the right people to do so with. What was it that made you want to do the band?
-FINDING THE RIGHT PEOPLE IS VERY DIFFICULT, BUT IT’S THE ENTHUSIASM, AND THE DESIRE TO CONVEY SOMETHING, THAT GIVES YOU THE STRENGTH AND ENERGY TO KEEP A BAND TOGETHER EVEN IN THE DIFFICULTIES.
With so many genres and sub-genres of metal today what is your definition of the music you play?
-ALTERNATIVE METAL / NU-METAL 😉
How do you arrange the tracks? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record?
-PERSONALLY, WHEN I HAVE A COLLECTION OF SONGS, I TRY TO TRACE AS CHAPTERS OF A BOOK, ALSO EVALUATING THE SOUNDS OF EACH SONG, SO THAT EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED BUT ALSO HARMONIOUS.
I am fascinated by how people can still come up with things that hasn’t been done before, chord structures that hasn’t been written, sentences that hasn’t been constructed before. Where do you find your inspiration to create?
-MOST OF MY IDEAS COMES FROM REAL LIFE EVENTS, OR FROM STRONG EMOTIONS THAT I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO EXPRESS OR TALK TO ANYONE.
How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into art work etc.?
-I CONSIDER IT VERY IMPORTANT, I THINK THAT THE ART WORK, IS THE SYNTHESIZED EXPRESSION OF WHAT YOU WANT TO TRANSMIT THEN MUSICALLY, AS WELL AS ALLOWING THE VIEWER TO ENTER IN THE RIGHT MOOD FOR LISTENING TO THE ALBUM.
I get the feeling that more and more metalheads too are just downloading single tracks. Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-HONESTLY I THINK IT’S NOT SO RELEVANT ANYMORE TODAY, THAT THIS CONCEPT MEANS AT ITS END, I DON’T THINK SO, BECAUSE ANYWAY THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO HAVE THE WHOLE ALBUM, BUT IT’S CLEAR THAT TIMES HAVE CHANGED, AND SO TO STAY RIGID TO CLASSICAL IDEAS I DON’T THINK IT’S ANY USE NOW. I PERSONALLY STILL LIKE THE CONCEPT OF ALBUM VERY MUCH.
Are we killing our beloved metal scene by supporting digital downloading or can anything positive come from supporting single tracks and not albums? Will the fan as we know him/her be gone soon?
-UNFORTUNATELY I THINK THAT’S THE CASE, IT’S MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO PLAY, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE A REAL AUDIENCE ANYMORE, PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER INTERESTED IN MUSIC IN A SERIOUS WAY, EVERYTHING IS CONSUMPTION, EVEN THE MUSIC… EVEN THE BIG BANDS TODAY SAY THAT IF THEY WOULD HAVE FORMED THESE DAYS THEY WOULD NEVER HAVE SUCCEEDED IN HAVING THE SUCCESS THEY HAVE TODAY. AND THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT OUR CURRENT SITUATION.
Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours? Where do you fit in?
-UNFORTUNATELY ,AND I AM VERY SAD TO SAY THAT, TODAY THERE IS NO REAL SCENE, I DARE SAY THAT WE ARE MORE THAN THE SURVIVORS.
What does the future hold?
-THERE’S A NEW ALBUM PLANNED, BUT IT’S STILL EARLY, WE’RE VERY FOCUSED ON “DUEL” NOW.
