INVOCATION

For some reason bands that come from South America are more cvlt in my eyes than bands thagt come from the US or Europe. Which makes this interview with INVOCATION cooler somehow. Answers by AMSG

Every band has to introduce their music to new people. What is it that you want people to get from listening to you guys?
-INVOCATION (Chile) born in late 2015 A.B. and has endeavoured to combine influence from the most chaotic Death Metal with the eternal darknes of occult and ritualistic Black Metal, we don’t want anything from the people, just listen the music and see how your mind is transported to the endless void…

How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-Definitely yes, our sound fits perfectly with our name, and you know, the name INVOCATION comes quickly if you are involve into the paranormal and occult topics…

Everybody is influenced by certain things. What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
-I can write a tons of bands, books, artists, etc. but we’re very influenced by the old south american sound Vulcano, Mystifier, Sepultura, Sextrash, Bestymator, Mutilator, etc. mixed with the some foreing Death and Black sound of Demoncy, Teitanblood, Cultes Des Ghoues, Pseudogod, Necros Christos, Dead Congregation, Embrace of Thorns, Grave Miasma, Temple Nightside, Malthusian, Possession, Irkallian Oracle, etc.

When you formed did you do so with the intent of knowing what to play or did you do so from the point of having a band name and then picking a sound? How did you settle on the name/sound combo?
-INVOCATION is composed by 3 black entities, very old friends with clear ideas… in our first rehearsal we downtune our guitars/bass and the first track “Devout Effusions” born inmmediatly, then came the name, the logo, etc. So, over the last months we were able to refine our sound into that we call “Ritualistic and Hypnotic Black/Death Metal”, but beware! there are still many mysteries…

I believe that digital is killing the album format. People’s changing habit of how they listen to music will result in there being no albums. Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-We’re into the most deep undergound scene so i don’t care that people wants these days… Singles and digital downloads are OK only for promoting your future releases, in our case we release 300 physical cds with a red paper cover totally, financed by us as a single, so crearly, we mantain the old traditions…

What part does art-work and lay-out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-The music has their own vibe and atmosphere, this two elements in communion with the artwork creates a formidable mix in that our listener can experience all the magic of sound and can be transported to different ways in search of the correct entity

Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote your music? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way?
-You’re right, but at some point one needs to think what we want to do, as a band we mantain a webpage on the internet just for news and a fast contact with labels, distros, fanzines, etc. but we use this tool very carefully… as i said before we mantain the old traditions of the underground metal scene, we keep writting a lot of letters and promo packs to our comrades around the globe… so if you’re interested in trading some of our material please contact us

When you play in a band, does that make you feel like you are a part of a scene, of something bigger and grander?
-We’re just a medium through the unknown, we keep our feelings to ourselves…

How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-I think it’s the best possible way, we are currently available to destroy your local town!, in the meantime I do not want to overtake, but there are chances to perform along to a legendary underground band from the Chilean abyss …

What will the future bring?
-We’re currently recording 2 new tracks called “Medium” & “ZoZo” (Instrumental) and composing 3 more for a future EP in 2017 a.b. hope this material bring us a lot of gigs to show this morbid sound in all the possible places…
Thanks for your interest in the band and remember…, there’s no light, only pure hypnotic darkness…
