KALEDON is my latest encounter with Italian hardrock/metal. Really cool band that I am glad that I interviewed. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
Every band has to introduce their music to new people. What is it that you want people to get from listening to you guys?
-Hi there, thank you for this space on your pages! Kaledon are a very versatile band so… I suggest to listen something from every album. You can hear many styles and different influences everytime 🙂
How hard was it for you guys to pick a name? What had that name have to have to fit your music?
-ooh… it was very easy! Kaledon is the name of the fantasy reign of our concept story
Everybody is influenced by certain things. What band(s) was it that turned you on to the kind of music you play? What inspires you today?
-We are six guys with very different musical influences… Personally (Alex Mele) I was totally influenced by Brian May of Queen. Of course I listen all the melodic metal. I Love Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and similar.
When you formed did you do so with the intent of knowing what to play or did you do so from the point of having a band name and then picking a sound? How did you settle on the name/sound combo?
-Well… in the very beginning we made some cover of bands like Judas Priest, Maiden act but… Basically we always been a band with original material and always power metal.
I believe that digital is killing the album format. People’s changing habit of how they listen to music will result in there being no albums. Is there anything good with releasing single tracks only?
-I agree… I really don’t like this new Music’s era. If you receive only single digital tracks here and there, you’ll lost the concept of album. I really love the physical format and I’ll always push to have it in different version. This new album will be released in two version of cd (digipack and normal jewel case) and two version of Vinyls… Normal and Red, both 180gr.
What part does art-work and lay-out play when you release new recordings? How do you best catch people’s attention?
-The artwork it is always related to the concept story! I usually send a short description of the story to the graphic guy that, this time was Jean Pascal Fouriner and… he makes his job.
Has social media re-written the rules on how to promote your music? Or do you go about doing promotion the same way?
-Absolutely yes… With the social media… everything is different today. If you are not on Facebook ect… you simply do not exist… We are in 2017 so we must accept the rules of these moment.
When you play in a band, does that make you feel like you are a part of a scene, of something bigger and grander?
-We ARE part of a scene… We are a piece of the heavy/power metal italian scene since 1998! We love it… We grew up with her… We are getting old with her… and we are proud of this thing… We love to be part of the metal scene.
How much of a touring band are you? Is touring/gigging still a great way of spreading the word of the band?
-Well… play live is still the best way to promote your band. Unfortunately today there are many problems related to the turing world! The pay to play mood is increasingly popular, and this is not cool. We always try to play as more as we can. In these days we are studying what to do and where to play.
What will the future bring?
-For sure play, play and play! Of course new music in the future and many other things… Stay tuned and follow us on our Facebook page and official website www.kaledon.com
