Finland strikes back again. This time with KREYSKULL. A psychedelic heavy doom band. Yippi kay yee MF. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

What fascinates me is how you can still come up with new combinations of chords to make new songs and sounds that have not been heard before. What is it that fascinates you into coming up with new songs and albums?
Kilgast –That`s very easy, the passion…. to create musical journeys for ourselves and our listeners, no wait? That wasn`t very easy…haha! But, you know…that`s the one.

How is this new recording different from the previous? How do you take your sound one step further?
Kilgast: -Driving force is definitely the mighty curiosity, that`s why every Kreyskull-record have different kinda vibe…from my point of view. Previous records…hmmm, I think “Birdy” is definitely more experimental or mental…your choice, of course.

When you write songs about the topics you do what kind of reactions do you get? How important is it to have a message in your lyrics? What kind of topics do each song deal with? Is there a red thread to the songs?
Kilgast: -Yes and no, in our case I say Yes. In my lyrics I do have a purpose; I’d like to give weird stories for people…why? Good old entertainment, that`s for sure! …and share my thoughts with our followers and fans, they`re special human beings. After all, we`re not here for masses.

Whenever I think of you I cannot help wandering off to different bands. What bands/sounds do you identify with?
Kilgast: -We all have different musical sources, thank goodness. My voice is kinda filled with vocalist that helped me built my own voice. I mean my vocal gods are definitely fellows like Ian Gillan, Rob Halford, Ronnie James Dio, Messiah Marcolin and Alice Cooper, together with lot of chili spice, cider and Lee Dorrian. As a band…I think we`re connected with Sabbath, Floyd and few others.

How did you go about choosing art work for this new album? What was important to have in it?
Kilgast: – I found the right artist to do it …and to be “mental victim” for my weird ideas and visions. haha

Something that scares me a bit is this I hear from more and more bands that they aren’t that bothered with art work anymore because people today download rather than buy physical. To me the whole point is to have art work that matches the music. I don’t know how many times I’ve been disappointed by weak art work to an otherwise cool album. What’s your opinion on this subject?
Kilgast: – Art work is the sign, key or whatever for the record, so …ok, I am 38 so I came from the world were album art was a holy thing in many ways. I was the sign for you “Hey, Check me out…i`ll suck your soul” , and KA-BOOM you are fallen into abyss of RRRRRRROCK`N ROLL. Damn it, I sound like a Jack Black right now. Album artwork is very very very important thing…just like music.

How do you come up with song titles? What do they have to have to fit the songs?
Kilgast: – Of course, they`re like trousers for the song. If they`ll fit…now that`s good, but if you have to find your way through the jungle of spontaneity…now that`s what I call, adventurous.

I use Spotify and Deezer but only as compliment to buying CDS (it’s easier to just have your phone or pad when your out) but I fear that soon music as we know it will be dead and buried. What are your worries as a band?
Kilgast: – Well the business is dying or struggling anyway, but the music is alive and well, you just have dig it first. It`s still there, you know…sometimes you just need some tools for that, shovel…Maybe?!
How much of a live band are you? How important is playing live?
Kilgast: – It the most important thing, whenever it`s 10 or 360 show, live it…breath it…jump in or whatever. And we do live shows but quite rarely, I personally love performing but hate the other hassle around touring or whatever. When time`s right and people around us are superb and nice, we`ll might do show or two, three…or maybe four. Who knows, it`s really about right feeling.

What lies in the future?
– it`s “Calm before the storm”, or something like that… I think people will find “The Bird of Bad Weather”…sooner or later.
-To be seriously with you, we JUST released the record…and in our caliber things take some time and with this kinda stuff, ah come on, haha.
– Records are out and flying around the world right now, so we just have to wait wait and wait…and then, We shall see…”Birdy” is a good bloody record, it will connect with most of you, sooner or later
– Thanks everyone and catch “THE BIRD OF BAD WEATHER” , it`s really nice birdy.
