How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-It was not very hard to come up with this name! It is very linear and logical, “vajra” means diamond or lightning. We have been stricken by this lightning in the sense that we came up with a new way of writing and thinking about music.
As I am new to your band perhaps a short introduction might be in order?
-Led by vajra is the evolution of another band named “Thirsting For Revenge”. Thirsting For Revenge formed in 2011, recorded 2 EPs, played several gigs with great bands too such as Jinjer, Betraying the martyrs.. The growth of the band brought to an inner change of the members that decided to try something new. This change is reflected in the birth of Led By Vajra. Led by vajra is about to release its first work that is a 10 tracks full lenght.. And brings on Thirsting for revenge’s work in playing important and several gigs.
As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
-We do not have influences but inspirations. What we write and play comes only from our stream of consciousness and there’s nothing really schematic. By the way, our everyday listenings go from Veil of Maya to Trivium, from Jazz music to country. We are not strictly focused on something, we adapt to what the atmosphere and the moment suggest us.
When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
-We do not really feel like we are part of a worldwide movement, we play and write primarily for ourselves hoping that people enjoy what we do. We intend music first as a way to express ourselves.
How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-When younger we didn’t give much importance to that side of the band’s work. Along the way we understood that is so fundamental for a band. Today we think that this side is as important as the music (or maybe more..) You know, the image is the first thing a potential fan comes across. Having a strong image gives you more chanches to be remembered.
What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-Lyrics are a fundamental part of our songs. They are inspired by what’s wrong in the society or by our life experiences.
Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-Everyone knows that today albums are not sold as in the past. Digital has its advantages, it’s to easy for a fan to buy your work or simply to give it a listen. Personally I love the physical copy and would always prefer to buy it. Back to our days, physical copies are for collectors
Where will the future of format end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-I think it’s pretty clear that the future of format will end to digital.. And I’m sad to admit this.
How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experience with you like?
-We are touring regularly and we hope we can go on this way despite all the difficulties. People involved in our gigs are literally assaulted by music: we do not speak too much, we only do it during studied electro sections.. nothing is left up to chance.
What lies in the future?
-We are planning to tour in few time and we’re already thinking about writing a new full lenght. We will release some music in the near future not related to our new album, but it’s something I can’t now give further informations.. Stay tuned!
