With so many cool bands out there to check out I offer you some minor guidance by introducing you to LILIAC. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

A band name says more than thousand words, or does it? How important is a band name to get people interested in your music?
-A band name is very important because a band name defines who they are, makes them unique and gets people interested in their music. It has to connect to the band/music and mean something to them. For us, Liliac means “Bat” in Romanian and that’s where our parents are from. Our Dad is from the Transylvania region and lived an hour away from Dracula’s Castle. We think that’s what makes an intriguing band name, when it represents who you are!

When you finish a recording and then sit back and relax, what kind of feelings do you get? Are you glad it is finished? Does the anxiety grow, not knowing if everybody will like it?
-When we finish recording or anything related to music we are very glad that all our effort and hard work is finished. We believe that when someone puts everything they got and does their best to make it perfect then people will notice, acknowledge and appreciate it.

What is it like to be in a studio recording your music? What kind of feelings and thoughts race through your heads?
-It’s one of the best things to be in a studio and recording our music because music is our lives and we just love working on it. Though, sometimes its not easy and quite stressful, its all worth it in the end when the songs are done. Some thoughts that run through our heads is “who would of thought that us, as a family, all very young, would end up being in a band, writing and recording music, its quite mind blowing but its just meant to be, it’s destiny haha.”

Today I get a feeling that the promotion of a band lands a lot on the bands themselves so how does one promote oneself the best possible way in order to reach as many as possible?
-Yes today, promotion lies in the band themselves. It’s nothing like how it was back in the day. In order to catch people’s attention you have to have a good product to show. That’s we’ve done working everyday with our videos and music. For us its a team effort to promote ourselves as best as we possibly can. Such as replying to emails, posting everyday on social media, and continuously finding out ways that grow our followers/subscribers….

Today we have all these different sub-genres in metal. How important is that you can be tagged in one of these? Why isn’t metal enough as a tag?
-Well, we love listening to all kinds of metal music. However, the reason there are sub-genres in metal is because every band is different, unique and don’t sound exactly the same. Which is why we have these different “sub-genres”, but we need to realize that even though we’re different we’re still apart of the same family which is the genre of METAL.

What importance is there in being part of local/national/international scene? Does playing in a band make you feel like you are a part of something bigger? I know it does to me knowing that in some slight way I was a part of the Swedish death metal scene in the 90s.
-Being able to grow your audience anywhere being local, national and international is very important because bands want to be able to put their material out there and have a positive response back. For us, playing in a band does make us feel like we’re part of something bigger because we are. We represent rock and metal music and that makes us who we are.

Ever since I first got into metal the art work has been a main motivator in buying a record. What part does art work for album covers play in the world of the band?
-Art work for an album plays a huge role in this business because it speaks for your band. It’s what makes people interested and it takes a lot of work to find what image you want to portray to your audience. A picture is worth a thousand words!

How important is having a label to back you uptoday when you can just release your music on any sort of platform online? With the ability to upload your music as soon as you’ve written it the freedom to create has become greater but are there any negative consequences to music being too readily available to fans now that every Tom, John and Harry can upload their stuff?
-We are an independent band, we are like our own label, and we feel it is useful for us to have the ability to upload our own music. We are able to produce, record and release our music on our own. There are positive sides and negative sides to being with a label or independent, but for now we’re doing a pretty good job on our own.

What is a gig with you like? What kind of shows do you prefer to play?
-We love to perform and show what we got. Our performance is very energetic with a lot of attitude and cool moves. As well as great playing because we practice multiple hours a day just to get it right. We prefer playing major shows with many people watching such as stadiums and opening up for major bands, its our dream!

What lies in the future?
-The future for Liliac is making our dreams come true! We want to put out our second album, play major shows in front of hundred-thousand people and grow our fan base. We just want to make this into a career and share our music to the world.
