What do you do when your band crash and die? You start anew. Like LIV SIN done. With a single “Let Me Out” released January, Friday the 13th and now today February 3rd a video, this new lot are up to a flying start. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
You had a good thing going with Sister Sin and then it all folded. How much of a pain in the behind is it to start again, even though you don’t have to start at zero again?
” Of course it will be a step back obviously, but Im happy I dont have to start from zero again, couse I dont think i would have the energy for that. I hope that my years in Sister Sin will help me on my way now, I know i ve learnt so much, so hopefully I wont make so many mistakes along the way this time”
Sex and scandals used to sell a hell of a lot of records in the past. Look at Van Halen with David Lee Roth for example. But today with the easy access to all this and much more online is it hard to sell a band based on image or is image still a great way to sell a band?
” It can be, just look at Ghost!! They totally have the whole image thing and yes they sell, of course they are a great band too, i love Ghost, but they took it a step higher with their whole image. I totally like it, but its is harder today, and also I feel either you have to have something very rare and mysterious like they have or you have to be the oposite, very open and honest to your fans. The whole ” sex drugs and bad rockstars” behavoir is so passé and boring, I dont think a band gets big by playing with that image at all anymore”
How hard was it to give up the moniker Sister Sin and start a new as LIV SIN? Is this to be seen as a sort of solo project?
” Yeah it was hard, cuz i didnt really know if I wanted to do something solo or put together a new band. So I did something in between, its is me, based on the music I wanna do, my lyrics, but we are a whole band who loves this kind of music, and making this kind of music and we all work together as a team and a band. I love the band feeling, I dont wanna loose that”
What will be the first thing we will see from you in terms of music? What can we the fans of Sister Sin expect from LIV SIN?
“First of all we are releasing the very first single on friday the 13 th, so I suggest to check that out. Its called ” Let me out”, video is coming soon too. The music is still metal from the veins of Sister Sin but I would say ive taking it to a bit heavier level, I hope you all will like it!”
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
” That is very important, it will give that extra to the bands image and. I have a great guy who knows exactly how I like things and art, its almost creepy haha. I trust the art work totally to him, I know it will be good, and it will be Liv Sin”
We live in a superficial world today where you don’t exist if you are not on Youtube and Facebook. Has social media been only beneficial in socializing with the fans or is there a down side to it too?
“Both, its amazing that you can communictae so easily with your fans nowardays , and you get so much closer to them. But it also puts a certain stress on you to always update, to always be reachble, its like you are never totally off from work or the world. And sometimes you need that to, to just be turned off. And that is harder now, cuz you kind of always have that phone close, dont you?”
Something I often wonder about is when you play in a band does it feel like you are a part of a massive community?
” Nahhh, sometimes, but sometimes not, sometimes its like you and your band against everybody and everything. I did get that community feeling when Sister Sin was on Mayhem Fest, a touring festival in the US”
How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do
that you cannot do on your own?
” They have the finances, which a smaller band dont, and also alot of contacts and structure. But I know alot of bands without a label, you can do that too, but it will be alot of more work around it, I’d say even more administartion than playing. And I love the playing MUCH more haha. So for me its suits with a label that helps me out”
How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
” With my new band I cant say so much yet, since we havent toured anything so far, we want o release the album first and then get our asses on the roads ! But we will be touring for sure, as much as we can!
What will the future bring?
” Hopefully a very bright future with alot of touring and shows around the world!!”
