This is a band that I’ve seen adds for over the years but never really bothered to check out until now. Another cool Swedish band by the name of LOCH VOSTOK. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

What pressure is there in releasing an album compared to a demo? Do you feel that there is a sort of pressure to succeed when you release and album, that it sorta is for real now?
-Can’t really remember, I haven’t released a demo since 1996, but I am always excited to release new music to the world. I never thought of success, I just write, perform and record the music I love.

When you release a record of any sort what kind of expectations do you have on it? Do you set up goals for it?
-Yeah, of course. Our goal is always to grow bigger so we can gain access to more listeners. Expectations are high, hope is even higher.

When you release an album and you go out and play live and people know your songs, how weird is that? That people know what you have written on your own?
-Never weird, only deeply satisfying! It’s the most flattering sensation ever!

Do you feel that you have to follow in the footsteps of the last album for a new when it comes to lyrics and art work for everything so that those that bought the previous record will recognize your sound?
-No, I like to explore new grounds instead of chronic nostalgia, never forget your past but don’t get stuck in it.

Do you feel like you are a part of a greater community because you play in a band?
-Considering most of my friends are musicians in other bands, yes. Some of my friends are also fans, and some of my fans are now my friends.

How hard/easy is it to come up with new songs that that still are you but doesn’t sound like anything you’ve already written?
-Very easy. I’ve never experienced writers block.

What influences/inspires you today? Where do you draw inspiration from? Is it important to have some sort of message?
-Watching documentaries, going to concerts and festivals, politics, religion, etc. For me personally, yes. I don’t really care if our listeners read the lyrics or what they think of them, I just wanna satisfy myself. It also depends on the song what kind of lyrics I write.

We hear about what state the record industry is in. Then we hear that cd sales are increasing. As a band that releases records do you notice the state the industry is in?
-I am in very close contact with the record company boss, Thomas Hörnkvist (Vicisolum Productions) and we discuss this all the time. Vinyls are definitely on the rise, and cd’s are up too.

What is your opinion on digital verses physical?
-Who cares? As long as they listen to the music I’m happy. I use all current medias to listen to the music I like.

What lies in the future?
-We’re looking at a couple of tours and festivals. We wanna play everywhere! We got good offers on tours, but nothing booked yet. Other than that, we’re writing and rehearsing, and of course doing promo work like this great interview!
Thanks a lot!
