LOKI LONESTAR

Check out this interview I did with LOKI LONESTAR. Anders Ekdahl ©2019 How important is the band name in giving out the right kind of vibe ?
-The name of a group is essential for the group itself because it represents its identity. By its name, it will define itself on the public stage. Giving a name to the group allows each member to invest an identity, to feel cohesive, to have recognition. The good atmosphere of the group is created by this cohesion. The name is the first image of it. And this will allow the group to gain public recognition.

I wanted to start a band in the 80s but couldn’t find the right people to do so with. What was it that made you want to do the band ?
-After a movie session with friends; we wanted to play music and create a group. It was the people around me who made me want to create a group. People who come together for a musical project, with whom I want to share an adventure, to be able to play music together and for everyone to bring their talent to the group.

With so many genres and sub-genres of metal today what is your definition of the music you play ?
The music we play…… Electro Rock Voodoo…… From the planet TRICKSTERLAND. We brought this music to Earth to convey a message to Humans. This music is diverse and universal, an ode to freedom and rebellion.

How do you arrange the tracks ? Is there a method to how you arrange the songs on a record ?
-There’s no method. Not on this album. There are many compositors who work on the project. Also many musicians who brings their own point of view and taste to create the songs together. I usually wrote the lyrics after everyone but as I said, there’s no method. Everything is ever changing.

I am fascinated by how people can still come up with things that hasn’t been done before, chord structures that hasn’t been written, sentences that hasn’t been constructed before. Where do you find your inspiration to create ?
-The inspiration that helps us to create comes from the whole group, everyone brings their emotions, their feelings, their personality. Our inspiration comes from society, from the world around us. This is our translation of the perception we have. It is a message that we leave for every being on Earth.

How important is the graphic side of the band? How much thought goes into artwork etc. ?
The graphic side of the group, in addition to the name, gives it an identity. It induces public recognition and correlation. The audience identifies with people, words, music. It’s a whole universe talking to them. Like an artwork, the graphic side is the first vision of the audience, the part of reflection is less because it represents above all the personality of the group.

I get the feeling that more and more metalheads too are just downloading single tracks. Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album ?
The album is always relevant, because many people remain attached to the object it represents, especially the cover, the photos, the lyrics, it’s a universe where graphics has its importance because it’s the identity of the band. On the metal scene, many metalheads continue to buy albums, even vinyls, which even comeback in force, because of the artistic object and its resistance, unlike the album which nevertheless deteriorates quickly. Even if for some, it has become a consumable.

Are we killing our beloved metal scene by supporting digital downloading or can anything positive come from supporting single tracks and not albums? Will the fan as we know him/her be gone soon ?
-Digital brings something positive, it allows access to a different audience, who would not buy the albums. Unique titles are also opportunities for groups to become better known, to reach more people. By supporting titles, they support groups and also allow them to evolve and then promote albums. The fan will remain a fan if he likes a band. He will be present at each release of music, video, album. And he will be present on the Live to follow the band. This will not change, even if we are increasingly in a society of overconsumption. People will keep their love for music and for their group.

Is there a scene to speak of for a band like yours ? Where do you fit in ?
-Of course there is a scene for a group like ours, our playground is the scene. All the scenes, the smallest as well as the largest, wherever the audience will be. We will conquer the world, because we have a message to convey.

What does the future hold ?
-A very bright future, where music will have an important and decisive place for all. This society in which we are currently living will become free. Every human being will be in rebellion to bring about a just, serene World where freedom and love will prevail over money and power.
