LOSTAIR is yet another cool Italian metal band that you ought to check out. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

Do you feel that is has gone the way you intended when you formed back in the days?
-In 2004 when we formed, our goal was to make music of their own and not the usual cover of other groups, if you refer to the fact that we have achieved the goals that we had set ourselves in part we managed, of course we still have a lot to do and offer

How do you feel about your latest recording? Did it come out the way you expected it to?
-We are very happy with “Ad jubilaeum”, the work has been long and difficult in some respects, but we believe we have made a good product

Do you feel that you by now has found a sound that is the band and that you can build on it ?
-Our sound has grown with us, we started with many classic references of heavy metal, we are currently quite thrash oriented, but we never neglect the melodic factor of a song, we do not like the cacophony and we want our music to be understandable

Is having a message in the lyrics important to you? What kind of topics do you deal with?
-“Ad jubilaeum” is a concept album that speaks of Christian religious political power, from the time of its birth until the present day, each piece deals with a different topic, we speak of the holy inquisition, the crusades, the pope and the Vatican, the bible and its hidden secrets, the concept of trinity and our vision of all this

How important is the cover art work for you? Can a really cool cover still sell an album in this day and age of digital download?
-The artwork is very important because it represents your band, your work and in part also your sound.
In addition, many people in my opinion buy with their eyes even before listening, so the artwork becomes even more important

Why is it so hard for bands that come from places not the US or UK/Sweden/Scandinavia to break big? What is success to you and is it something you’d like to achieve?
-I believe that a metal band coming from Italy is already disadvantaged compared to a foreign band, the reason is that the Italian people is recognized for its classic roots, I refer to light music and pop rock, so to make heavy metal would say go against the current and only a few bands are able to emerge.
Today the competition is harder. You got plenty of digital platforms for new talent to display their music. How do you do to really stand out in a world where everything but the music is blind to the listener?

You’re absolutely right, it is increasingly difficult to reach the listener, but do not forget that all these platforms can also become very useful for an unknown band as they allow at least to try to be known.
-Once if you did not have a good record label you were not one, now there are many valid self-productions, the times have changed and the way to make music the same

What is your local scene like? How important is a national scene for a band to be able to break out and make it international?
-In Italy, metal is a strange reality.
For example if they come to play Iron Maiden, Metallica, Rammstein, Megadeth, Slayer, etcccc
people go to their concerts and also pay nice cost.
If you play smaller groups such as Overkill, Voivod, Anvil or similar, the public becomes very poor, if you find an evening with even smaller groups like EXTREMA, NECRODEATH etcc, forget it, the place is hard to pay the costs.
In the end I want to say that there are metalheads and fake metalhedas, we have become very lazy and we are bored because metal music is no longer a discovery but has become a common thing

Rock and metal has come a long way since the early 70s but still some people’s attitudes towards it seem to be left in the stone age. How accepted is metal in your area? Is it like in Finland where it seems to come with the mother’s milk?
-The real metalhead listens to everything, after obviously everyone has his own preferences, the Italian metalheads are a small elite surrounded by so much shit music.
We are slaves of Vasco Rossi, Ligabue and now we have talent like XFACTOR, FRIENDS, THE VOICE, who continue to kill the Italian metal scene with their shit.
However, there are still some beautiful reality, we have several festivals and lots of good bands and excellent musicians and singers

What does the future hold for you?
-We hope to play a lot and keep doing what we like best.
It does not matter if we do not become famous, we love metal music and we also have a lot of fun when we get to know new people who appreciate our product.
The important thing is to remain oneself and not fall into fashions.
