METALITE are new on the metal sky but well worth checking out. Answers by Edwin. Anders Ekdahl ©2017
How hard was it to come up with a band name and how does the name fit the music?
-The name Metalite just popped up when I was planning the new modern sound for the first song. Well, its metal and I wanted the sound to be ”l33t” or ”1337” (Which means ”Elite” in the online language ”Leet” used in BBS and nowadays Online Gaming.) That formed the bandname Metalite which have the modern touch that perfectly fits the sound.
When you formed with what purpose did you do so?
-I wanted to create a sound that combined all the melodic genres i´ve been listened to and form a kind of new metal sound. My biggest metal influences when I wrote the ”Heroes In Time”-album was Amaranthe, Battle Beast, Dynazty, Sabaton etc.
As I am no musician I have no idea how it works, but how do you make your own music based on what influences you? What parts do you pick?
-You need a really catchy refrain, almost like a “europop-one”. If you the have listened to that music in the 90s, you can combine a “90-stylish”-refrain together with the powermetal sound. As powermetal is very melodic its a perfect match.
When you are in a band does it feel like you are a part of a worldwide movement?
-Nowadays you release the album worldwide and everybody who wants to listen to your music are able to do so. As we get a lot of fans all across the world we sure feel like we are a worldwide movement 🙂
How important is it that you look the part in promo shots and stuff? How important is the graphic side of the band?
-You need the whole package to be great. Logo, artwork, band photos, video etc must fit the sound and our personalities. Its a very hard work to get all these things together and now when all those things are in place I can say that we´re really proud of the outcome.
What would you say influences your lyrics? How important are they?
-The lyrics in those songs are both written in a classic “powermetal-way” and with very important subjects these days. I can feel that sometimes you don’t need a deeper meaning in your lyrics because the music and the melodies are sooo good but I always strive for lyrics that are importan and contemporary. Its our chance to raise those subjects.
Is the album as relevant today as it was in the 70s and 80s? Is digital killing the album?
-I think that release of a physical album (CD/VINYL) is very important even in this digital world today. To touch and feel always beats the scrolling and streaming if you know what I mean. Then I must say that simpleness in just grabbing your smartphone to listen to the latest music really makes the music very accessible, which is needed these days too. So, you need both I should say. Justonly i different situations.
Where will the future of format end – digital verses physical verses whatever?
-The physical format, which has not been so popular in a while is on the rise I should say. The digital formats will stay I guess, the streaming services makes it so easy to catch and listen to new music and I cannot see why this should get wiped away. But, as the digital services and platforms has taken over the business for a while, I understand that the vinyls are back. People want to get more personal with their music and thats why the physical formats are on the rise again 🙂
How much of a touring entity are you guys? What is a live experiencevwith you like?
-We really looking forward to get out touring and play the songs from ”Heroes In Time”. Officially, we haven’t been on stage yet but I can say that it will be a high-energy concert with a bunch of great musicians on stage!
What lies in the future?
-Right now we´re planning for a releastparty here in Stockholm and we´re looking forward to get a lot of bookings so that we can go and play live for you. In a vast future, I´m looking forward to create a new Metalite masterpiece album.
