With a name like METALWINGS it is hard to not get what this band is all about. But I wanted to hear what they had to say for themselves so I interviewed them. Anders Ekdahl ©2016
Do you feel that you have come as far as you planned for the band now that you have a new album out?
-Yes, definetely. Everythnig is going fine as we planned for the band. We’ll release our first EP on 12 May this year. May be we should release our first album earlier but we not regret for this delay because now we are ready to show the best of our music.
How does this new album compare to the previous ones?
-We haven’t another albums yet, only three singles before this EP.
Was it hard for you to come up with a sound for this album that you all could agree on?
-All of us were agreed upon the sound of the album.
How important are the lyrics to you? What kind of topics do you deal with?
-Lyrics are very important for our style of music. The topics in our lyrics are the battle between light and dark, the mistery of our Life and the things beyond our imagination.
How important is the cover art work for you? How much do you decide in choosing art work?
-Every cover art work is important, in our opinion. It’s just a way to get first the visual idea of your fans and then to touch their souls with your music.
Where outside of your country do you feel you have had the best response so far?
Why is it that we do not see more bands from your country making it big internationally?
-There are lots of reasons for that. We haven’t such a music industry like the others countries and it’s very difficult for the bands here because all of them rely on their own resources, friends and family. Another reason is that in Bulgaria there aren’t any producers for metal music and recording studios for quality mixing and mastering work. Most of the bands here, including our band, use the services of some recording studios abroad for mixing and mastering. But even then most of the bands have reached a fan audience abroad very difficult. Youtube is may be the only chance for the bulgarian bands to be heard and seen. Also most of the bands here play for free constantly on festivals and clubs. The reason for that is the attitude of the owners of clubs and festivals and the fully lack of respect for metal music and metal bands. They think that the band is bound to play free and have to be grateful for the chance to play on their stage.
What is your local scene like? What status does does your band have in the national metal scene?
– The local scene is a painful theme. We haven’t enough clubs and stages for rock and metal music. Also everythimg here depends on your friends and relationships. Some bands have occupied the local stages and festivals and the others just survive day by day with the hope for their chance someday. If we haven’t uploaded the video of Crying of the Sun on youtube – the world won’t never know for us. We hope that our status here is ok. We hold up every day our good level as musicians and keep the faith for our big chance. We accept to play only for real and noble causes here. Everything else unfortunately is just a dust in our eyes.
What kind of reaction have you had nationally/ internationally so far?
-Unfortunately, here in Bulgaria there isn’t such a media reaction like the international ones. We are very grateful to every foreign media, online magazine or metal portal that gave us a chance to tell about our music.
What does the future hold for you?
-Lot of concerts all around the world, huge stages and the most important thing for our future is our Music – to reach more people all over the world. Also we’ll release our first EP on 12 May. This EP is coming up with 4 songs – one of them will be the lead single of the album – Fallen Angel in the Hell. So, we think that our future will be great.
