METHEDRINE want you to read this interview and then continue to check them out. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

What fascinates me is how you can still come up with new combinations of chords to make new songs and sounds that have not been heard before. What is it that fascinates you into coming up with new songs and albums?
-Well, it’s sort of a need, we play the music we’d like to listen to I guess, or to satisfy our sick egos, (lol) but actually apart from jokes, it is a combination of many differents ideas, usually it starts with a guitar riff from Dario or Mark,or even from a certain bass lines by Helder, each member of the band gives his own support in making songs, if everybody likes it than it’s o.k., it may take days of practice or few minutes, but the fascination comes from the idea of play it live on a stage , very loud and watch the reaction of the crowd at the shows

How is this new recording different from the previous? How do you take your sound one step further?
-this is actually our first realease as METHEDRINE, although we’re all experienced with our previous bands and records, this is quite new for us, a new band , new songs and a new adventure , we’re all so excited and curious about how this record will sound … let’s wait and see!

When you write songs about the topics you do what kind of reactions do you get? How important is it to have a message in your lyrics? What kind of topics do each song deal with? Is there a red thread to the songs?
-I (Lou) write all the lyrics, my topics are inspired by reality , or stories that impress me , or simply human feelings , most of the times it the music itself inspiring me, sometimes it’s anger ,or fear ,anger , desire … the inner message it’s that life ,even when it’s too hard, or makes you feel bad, it is the only chance you’ve got ,so don’t give up your goals , never surrender , believe in yourself cause it’s later than you think.

Whenever I think of you I cannot help wandering off to different bands. What bands/sounds do you indentify with?
-me and Bone (drummer) knew each other almost 30 yrs ago,we were both fans of Motorhead , Discharge , Misfits , Ramones etc. and he got me Singing in Upset Noise , a band of the first wave of italian hard core punk scene together friends such as Wretched , EU’s Arse , Negazione , Raw Power ,Indigesti and so on… Dario , Mark (guitars) and Helder ( bass) are a bit younger and probably more influenced by 90’s metal and hard core bands,you know… Slayer , Metallica ,Cro Mags and Agnostic Front among others;
Definetely we grown up listening to punk rock , hard core and Heavy Metal, and all kinds of fast, loud and agressive r’n’r music and the product of this background it’s Methedrine

How did you go about choosing art work for this new album? What was important to have in it?
-artwork absolutely matters for Methedrine ; a cover ,or a poster must define what a record or a show it’s all about, it has the message you want the kids to reach out ; I always loved the artwork of arstists like W. Smith for bands like Dead Kennedys or Raymond Pettibon for black flag and all of that underground culture as much as I loved comics books ,they still inspire my lyrics sometimes, though

Something that scares me a bit is this I hear from more and more bands that they aren’t that bothered with art work anymore because people today download rather than buy physical. To me the whole point is to have art work that matches the music. I don’t know how many times I’ve been disappointed by weak art work to an otherwise cool album. What’s your opinion on this subject?
-that’s a good subject , I sure agree with you and I think it’s pretty sad, technology has made everything easier and faster, faster to find , to buy… and to forget; artwork used to be a band’s business card, the best add to catch music lovers attention, nowadays seems to have less importance … but I must say that I’ve been more often disappointed after I bought records because they had an amazing artwork just to find out absolutely shitty music in it! Ahahahahahah! Well, music still remains the main thing after all!

How do you come up with song titles? What do they have to have to fit the songs?
-funny question, titles mostly come from the topic of the lyrics, or they’re supposed to, sometimes it’s just a word to remember wich song you’re playing and you should change it after it’s done, but you don’t cause fits better than the title you gave it … I like to put an ironic or sarchastic sense in titles, like “youporn generation” or “alphaloser” … it ain’t rock’n’roll if if you take yourself too seriously!

I use Spotify and Deezer but only as compliment to buying CDs (it’s easier to just have your phone or pad when you’re out) but I fear that soon music as we know it will be dead and buried. What are your worries as a band?
-I do the same as you do, but I can’t help buying CDs and Vinyls , even because I work as Dj in some clubs in my hometown; we all can see it,as a matter of fact , the internet caused a crackdown on records sales and I miss those small record shops I used to go after school to find rare and special records, meet other fans like me make friends,it’s a sign of the times; it’s more of a damage to mainstream record industry and market, and anyway underground bands like us are not meant to make money out of albums selling or pay our bills , so… why worry?

How much of a live band are you? How important is playing live?
-to us, nothing really compares to the feelings we get from live shows; the intensity, the energy that we get from that always- too-short time whenever we’re on stage , playing the music we love, feelin’ the heat of the lights, the power of the sound , givin’ our very best to the audience pays back all of our efforts and sacrifice for days to come , it’s redemption time, it’s an act of love and passion; our record it’s just an invitation to you all to join this party, to share this rapture and celebrate our lives together and fight for our right not take shit passively , tell me… what’s better than this?
As long as we’ll get that certain shiver going down our spine each time we’re about to step on a stage we will carry on with all of this, it’s a love thing.

What lies in the future?
-our masterplan is to play wherever we can, share all this positive hi-energy with all the kids at the shows and write down some new chapters of this amazing adventure called Methedrine,…what else???
O.k. here it is, thanks again From Methedrine
