MEXICAN CHILI FUNERAL PARTY

A name is but a name, or something. But MEXICAN CHILI FUNERAL PARTY is a really a mouthful of a name. But no matter what you ought to check them out. Anders Ekdahl ©2017

You have one of these names that do not really tell what kind of metal you play. How hard was it to come up with the name?
– IT WAS EASY TO FIND OUR NAME, IT COMES ALMOST ACCIDENTALLY, FOR JOKE . EVERYTIME WE TRY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW IT WENT, WE INVENT A DIFFERENT STORY.
WHAT WE CAN SAY IS THAT OUR NAME BASICALLY REFLECT THE VARIETY OF THE MUSIC WE DO, THAT WE CANNOT DEFINED “METAL” AT ALL.

As I am sure of we are quite a few that are rather new to you guys could you give us a short introduction to the band?
-WE’RE 5 ALE, RASTA, CARLO, BRE AND MR DINIZ, EVERYBODY BORN AND RAISED IN MILAN AND NEIGHBOUR. WE PLAY AND GET STONED TOGHETER SINCE 2009. WE RELEASED 1 EP IN 2010, 1 ALBUM IN 2014 AND IN A VERY FEW MONTHS OUR LATEST ALBUM IS COMING OUT!

We all carry baggage with us that affects us in one way or another but what would you say have been the single greatest influence on your sound?
-IT’S HARD TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE BIG INFLUENCE IN OUR SOUND CAUSE EVERYONE IN THE BAND HAS GOT HIS OWN, CAN WE SAY THE FUZZ PEDAL?!?
FOR SURE IS NOT AN INFLUENCE BUT IS THE ONLY COMMON THING WE HAVE!

What is the scene like in your area? Is it important that there is some sort of local scene for a band to develop or can a band still exist in a vacuum of no scene/no bands?
-WHAT WE ARE, OUR SOUND AND OUR WAY TO WORK ON THE MUSIC WE MAKE IS THE RESULT OF A SCENE AND FOR SURE IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE ONE SCENE THAT SUPPORT YOU AND GIVES YOU MOTIVATIONS.
IN OUR AREA THE SCENE IS FULL OF PERSON THAT MAKE MUSIC AND LISTEN TO IT, A SORT OF BROTHERHOOD THAT TRY TO ELEVATE THE INDEPENDENT MUSIC.

Something I have often wondered about is if you feel that you are part of something bigger and greater when you play in a band, that you are part of a movement sort of?
-FIVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE MEET, PLAY AND CREATE A COMMON VOICE: ISN’T THIS BEING A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER AND GREATER?

When you play the sort of music you play I guess you cannot have birds and bees on the cover of your album? What is a great album cover to you?
-FOR SURE A GOOD ALBUM COVER HAS TO REFLECTS ALL THE CONTENTS INSIDE THE ALBUM THAT YOU’RE LISTENING TO AND ALSO THE BAND PERSONALITY.
THIS IS THE REASON WHY WE CREATE THE COVER OF “ MEXICAN WARRIORS’ REVENGE “ ( OUR COMING OUT ALBUM ).
CONCEPT BEHIND THE SONGS IS “ THE JOURNEY ” SOWE USE OLD PRECOLOMBIAN JEWELS IMAGES ( ONE FOR EACH SONGS ) AND WE PUT THEM TOGHETER,
THE RESULT IS THE ARTWORK COVER SO THE VISUAL IMPACT REFLECT THE SOUND ONE.

What is your opinion on digital verses physical? Is digital killing music?
-DIGITAL IS NOT KILLING MUSIC, PROBABLY IS KILLING THE OLD WAY TO DO AND DISTRIBUTE IT BUT IS THE CHANNEL THAT’S CHANGING NOT THE MESSAGE.
IT HAS GOT A HUGE POWER IN TERMS OF DIFFUSION, FOR EXAMPLE WE HAVE GOT PEOPLE THANKS US FOR OUR MUSIC FROM NEW ZEALAND, MEXICO AND OTHER COUNTRIES FAR AWAY FROM US AND WITHOUT DIGITAL WE CANNOT EVER THINK ABOUT A LARGE SCALE LIKE THIS.
THAT’S WHY DIGITAL IS TAKING CONTROL, IT TAKES JUST A CLICK AND YOU’RE WORLDWIDE.
JUST TO MAKE THE POINT, DON’T GET US WRONG…WE LOVE PHYSICAL! THAT’S WHY WE ALWAYS PRINT OUR MUSIC.

What kind live scene is there for bands like yours?
-IN OUR AREA THERE ARE LOTS OF CLUBS IN WHICH YOU CAN PLAY BUT THE REAL PROBLEM HERE ( AND WE CAN SAY ITALY AT ALL) IS TO TAKE THE “RIGHT“ MONEY FROM THEM.
CLUBS AND PROMOTERS FEAR TO RISK WITH “NO MAINSTREAM BAND“ CAUSE INDEPENDENT MUSIC DON’T MAKE THEM MONEY ENOUGH.
AS THE RESULT THEY GIVE YOU THE MINIMUM THEY CAN AND FOR YOU THE ONLY WAY TO EARN SOMETHING IS “THE OLD AND GOOD” MERCH.

When you play live is it a happening or do you see it more as a party?
-FOR US IS BOTH, LIKE AN “ HAPPENING PARTY ”. WE TRY TO LIVE THE MOMENT, WHAT IS HAPPENING, RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.

What would you like to see the future bring?
-WE DREAM ABOUT PLAYING MUSIC WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT PAYING THE RENT OF OUR HOME!
