MIND ENEMIES is another band to keep an ear or two out for. Anders Ekdahl ©2018

I am a word buff so when I find a band name that excites me I want to know the reason behind the choice. So how did you pick your name?
-When I decided to create this project of mine, I made a very important choice for me, and I changed musical instruments, going from drums to guitar and vocals, then I started writing songs. Finding the band’s name was very natural for me. “Mind Enemies” means facing my “fears”. I chose to test myself, deciding to do anything that would make me happy. I am the worst enemy of myself, and our fears are the worst obstacles to our realization. I created the “Mind Enemies” to always remember to face my fears in every moment of my life.

There are so many genres and sub-genres today that it is hard to keep track of them all. So what was it that made you pick the style you play?
¬-Actually I did not choose this style, it came out of it. I started improvising thinking of creating my favorite music, and what came out of it was completely instinctive. Inside there is everything I love in rock and metal music. I think that music is the expression of what is inside, so I tried not to filter anything and to be more instinctive as possible.

What influences you in creating your music? What is/has been the single greatest influence?
-What motivates me to create music is the will to explore myself deeply, discovering every time the sides of my personality, of my moods, that I could hardly manage to throw out. The music digs deep and helps me to know myself and to better face my life.

How important is it to have a message as a band?
-I think we should give a message only if we really have something to say. I write songs first of all to feel good about myself, but if my message, my teaching, can help someone, I would be immensely happy.

Is image an important factor to the bands appearance?
-In today’s society, unfortunately, the image is important, but I try to concentrate first on music and on what I want to convey. I try to do good concerts and keep fit to be able to give the best on stage, but I’m not fixed on the image, for me it is not very important.

How important is it to have an album cover that stands out to grab people’s attention in this day and age?
-For those who study a way to stand out at all costs is important, but it is not so for me. My covers are the product of my music, and they want them to be as I see them in my mind, I want them to satisfy my tastes. I do not care to attract the attention of others. What matters is to be satisfied with your work regardless of the public’s response.

What kind of respect do you get from your local scene?
-In my local scene I am a musician who does his job with seriousness and passion, who fights for his dreams as anyone takes his own path. Some people appreciate me and others less, as it should be.

How massive is it to get response from places you have never heard of?
-It’s not easy, you have to do a lot of promotion to make your music known, and if it’s okay to do some live to be known. I think that if you work hard, the results will come sooner or later.

Is playing live still a great way to get new fans to discover you?
-It always remains the best way. During the lives the magic of music is created and if the audience is attracted to it, it becomes attached to the band and starts to follow it. It’s the best way to show how much you’re worth, there are no computers that fix your mistakes. If you can transmit emotions then you are really appreciated.

What does the future have in its womb?
-I’m preparing a series of concerts to do in Europe from April onwards. Soon we will give more information about it. I want to play live as much as possible and promote my music in every part of the world, at least until the end of 2018. A very intense “on the road” year is waiting for us. We are waiting for you at our live shows!
