Could you please introduce the band to us?
-Hi everybody and first of all thanks to Battlehelm for this interview. We are Misteyes from Italy, we are a metal band that is based upon duality and contrast between two sides. The white side is characterized by the gothic and melancholic melodies and the black side is the heaviest one with the influences from death and black metal.

When you form how easy is it to pick up a thread as to where your sound is going?
-It’s was not easy to find our sound since the beginning, but everything came naturally. When the band formed (as you can listen from our first single released in 2013) the sound was mainly influenced by melodic death and black metal. But we eventually find our sound after adding gothic and symphonic influences, thanks mainly to the entrance in the line-up of a female vocalist and a keyboard player. This is the sound that characterize our first album “Creeping Time” (that will be released in 2016), however our music is always changing trying to mix new and new elements.

How do you explain the meaning of the band name?
-The meanings behind our name “Misteyes” can be many. We chose it because in it we found the best description of the human condition: our eyes are surrounded by a mist that hides us the truth and bind us to the physical reality of things and that doesn’t let us go beyond.

How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Nowadays the image of a band is very important, especially for the genre we propone, so we cared always much about the visual aspect of the band and of our live shows. However with the release of our first album in 2016 we’ll have a revolution in many aspect, including the image of the band, so stay tuned on our channels to be updated with all the news about it.

I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-We think it’s very important to have professional artworks. We finished the works on all the aspects of the new album in these days and we spent a lot of time and attention on the cover and the booklet. All this stuff was created for us by Alessandro Alimonti of Design Overload, a really great artist who did an amazing job! In the next months we’ll reveal the artwork of the cover of the album!

How do you avoid being affected by the hype likes on youtube and facebook can create on social media?
-Social media like Facebook or Youtube are really good instruments to spread the music all over the world and we are really grateful to all the fans who support us on them. However these are only instruments, we don’t think the importance of a band or the good quality of music can be judged by the likes or followers on the social media.

When you play in a metal band does it feel like you are a part of massive community?
-Yes, surely it is, or at least it should be. Both on an underground level and on a major level, the metal world is really more unite than others, where there is more individuality. Unfortunately here in Italy this spirit of collaboration is less present than in the other countries, but we hope that this will change in the next years.

How important is it to be signed to label today? What can they do that you cannot do on your own?
-It really depends on the situation and on the kind of label. Professional artists really need a big label because there is a lot of work on the release of a professional album that a band can’t do alone. But for smaller realities, we think that the work that a small label can do is quite the same of what can do the band by itself.

How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-For now we are not much a touring band, we prefer to make a selection of the events and to choose less shows to participate but with a good quality for us and for the fans. A good example was our latest show that we had as support act for Arcturus. Being a support band for such a great event let us play on a better stage and let us give a better show to the fans than an headliner show in a smaller venue. Anyway, it’s not easy to find good gigs, especially abroad, so for it we decided to sign a contract with Ronin Agency, that takes care of finding gigs for us (as well as promotion and management duties).

What will the future bring?
-2016 will be a great year for us! The most important thing will be the release of our first album “Creeping Time” and everything related to its promotion (photoshoot, videoclip, lyric video, etc…). And as we said before, this will also affect the image and the visual aspect of the band. Then, this will also be our return on stage after the stop we had for the recordings of the album.
