With so many cool bands out there to check out I offer you some minor guidance by introducing you to MORTAL INFINITY. Answers from Marc Doblinger (Vocals). Anders Ekdahl ©2018
Let’s start with your latest recording. When you look back at it now what kind of feelings do you have for it?
-I’m very proud of the new album „In Cold Blood“. We developed our sound without forgetting our roots. Each song on „In Cold Blood“ catches me in a different way. I can´t even name my favorite song. But I think that’s a good thing.
I am fascinated by band names. What was it that made you settle on the one you have and what does it mean to you?
-I remember this day very well! Back in 2009 – every band member had a list with serveral possible names – but no one seemed to fit.
I kept going through the list over and over again. I tried to put together different words. After a while the idea came to me: “Mortal Infinity”. And all other members also felt positive about it. This oxymoron represents many subjects you can also find in our lyrics.
What does it mean to you that there are people out there that actually appreciate and look forward to what you are doing?
This is a great honor for me personally.
We did not dare to dream that when we founded the band.
We appreciate every person who supports us because they like what we do.
How important is image to the band? What impression do you want the fans to get of the band?
-Convincing with our music is much more important to us.
I am a huge fan of LP art work. How important is it to have the right art work for your album?
-For me, a good cover artwork must express something. A message anybody can interpret in a different way. Sometimes hidden, sometimes obvious. Also it should match well with the song themes and represent the album at first glance.
We live in a superficial world today where you don’t exist if you are not on Youtube and Facebook. Has social media been only beneficial in socializing with the fans or is there a down side to it too?
-Of course, it’s very advantageous to be able to present your songs on many different platforms. Worldwide, at any time. On the other side, it is very difficult for a band like us to be heard at all – in addition to the abundance of great songs that are released every day. Being in a band is hard work and much more than only producing the music.
When you play in a band does it feel like you are a part of a massive community? That you belong to something that gives meaning to your life?
-At concerts and especially at festivals, you definitely feel a great cohesion. But not only as a musician on stage – also in the audience. That’s what I love about the metal scene. It’s not just music – it’s a way of life.
When you are in the middle of it do you notice what state our beloved music scene is in? Is the scene healthy or does it suffer from some ailment?
-Music in general is regarded as too obvious and is therefore unfortunately underestimated, A problem that is certainly not only in the metal scene.
How much of a touring band are you guys? How hard is it to get gigs outside of your borders?
-We have already been to Italy, Luxembourg, Austria and Czech Republic. Every time we had a lot of fun and we would like to tour more often. But it’s also very hard work.
What will the future bring?
-Our new album “In Cold Blood” will be released on 06.09.2019. Until then we we release a few singles. So stay tuned and follow our social media for updates!
