MOSKOWA

As a guide to the vast array of bands in this universe I present to you an interview with MOSKOWA. Anders Ekdahl ©2021

Was it hard to come up with a name? What does the name mean to you? How important is it to have the right name?
-It was Jeff and Val ‘from Music-Records who helped us find the name because the first and second album is conceptual in relation to the First Empire.
In addition, with “MoSKowa” we find our respective initials.
The name is important because it reflects the spirit of the band and it’s like a store window.
With MoSKowa, we feel the simplicity, the heaviness, and the brutalism

Who would say have laid the foundation for the kind of sound you have? Who are your heroes musically and what have they meant to you personally and to the sound of your band?
-To name a few bands, that would be Gojira, Death, and Morbid Angel. For Manny, these three bands influenced him a lot in his drums playing, and for Kylroys, Morbid Angel is a big influence. For me, Stella, Death is a magical band in the composition of lines of guitars and solii.

When you play slow do you have to think differently arranging the music than if you play faster and vice versa?
-When composing, different parts come instinctively.
The cool thing about Manny and Kylroys is that we have a unique and very own feeling that we get along with perfectly.
Afterwards, we ask Valentin to listen to the compositions to find out what he thinks about it,

Will your music work in a live environment? What kind of stage environment would best suit your music; a big stage or a small club?
-It would work fine in smaller clubs as we prefer to be in contact with the crowd,

It is very hard to be 100% satisfied. Everybody seems to be disappointed with something they have released. Is there something that you in hindsight would have done differently on this your latest recording?
-As Valentin says “we are always a bad judge of ourselves!”
With hindsight, we could have taken the time to record the vocals but for a first album, we are happy. With the new album, we won’t repeat the same mistakes. We will take the time necessary to properly perfect the recording of the new album.
Valentin helps us with the preproductions of the second album,

Promotion can be a bitch. Even today with all different platforms it can be hard to reach out to all those that might be interested in your music? What alleys have you used to get people familiarized with your band?
-With Music-Records, for the new album to come, we will work on the visual, simple but effective and to promote on different media (press, Youtube, digital platforms, etc …)
Since the creation of the band, we have not done concerts so that can hinder the promotion but it is a desire to do concerts because with our respective schedules, it is not easy to organize.
But Music-Records, being an independent label, we are happy with the work done on our first album,

To me art work can be the difference between bust or success. What to you is a great front cover? What should a cover have to make it great?
-A work can be a success and be a failure at the same time because something has not been communicated or transmitted to the people concerned.
The cover of the album, there are different variants in relation to the genres. For a rock band, the cover will be simple while a band of progressive Death or Deathcore or even progressive Metal, the cover will be complicated because the codes want it. But it is possible to stand out from it.
With the guys and Music-Records, we value the idea of simplicity, and that it be effective because when people listen to the albums, they’ll take a slap.
After Art is such a vast field, that one can carry out countless experiments.
For the second album, Manny wanted to put a cookie on a white background, but we said it was too simple and too done compared to the Rammstein cover! ah ah ah

Do you feel that you are part of a national scene? Is a local/national scene important for the development of new bands?
-We are part of the national scene even if we do not do concerts but then, on a universal idea, we are part of the international scene and wholeheartedly, we support all our brothers and sisters in music,

I could just be me but I got the feeling that the live scene is not what it used to be. Could be that more and more people use the net to discover bands instead of going out and supporting new bands live. What is you experience with the live scene?
-With the guys, we are more spectators but it is true that we lack a certain curiosity these days to discover and support independent bands; be it in different musical styles.
Unfortunately, people move when the band is being talked about, with extensive promotional and media coverage, and it hurts independent labels and their bands.
Like all cycles, curiosity and the fact of supporting the independent will return; matter of patience,

What does the future hold?
-To speak for Manny, that would be unlimited and free cookies!
For Kylroys, it would be more peace in our freedoms and the possibility of undertaking what we like and I agree with him on this subject.
But for MoSKowa, it would be to release our new album and have them please a lot of people,
Anyway, thank you very much for your time to have listened to our album and to have taken time for us, with this interview! It’s adorable !
